PC Still tons of lower level recipes require steel that you can't make.

Seriously, TFP don't want you making the guns that you unlocked at level 40 until you are level 70.

So I want to craft a shotgun because I need the mod slots. Nope! Need 50 steel. I have found two traders so far. Neither of them has ever had steel or currently has steel. I have checked after every single refresh. Not that I have the 5000 dukes it would cost to buy it anyway. When the hell am I supposed to be able to use the frigging perks I took Pimps? I broke 6 ammo boxes. After the third one they stopped giving me steel. I got 3 steel. Which I need to fix my wrench. Because, you know, about 40 cars later and I still don't have an engine for my minibike.

This #hastychangegate crap has got to stop. I don't care that your sister's cousin's brother's ex-roomate had steel on day 2. Regular people play this game also.

Have a happy holidays pimps. Maybe take some time to play your own game so you can stop making terrible balance decisions.

I consider myself a regular person and I've never crafted a gun in game so I can't relate to your dilemma.

Instead of having to fabricate parts out of steel... it's too bad we couldn't find already crafted parts and use those!

Damn, so tuff, if there only existed a way to trade unwanted items for required ones.

You're just unlucky with steel, that's all.

Different traders sell different items with different item focus, so find and check more traders.

You can also find some steel from broken forges... I got lucky on day 1 and found some 13 steel not much more later on, but I only use guns I find - but I understand your pain with these level gates - I was without iron pickaxe on day 9!! Didn't find any and couldn't craft one till lvl 20.. and by the time i was level 20 I forgot about it :) ) But I worked around and didn't bother with gated skills.

The recipe requires 50 steel mate. Pull your GD head out! This guy.

lets not forget the motorcycle too, available at lv 50, requires 36 steel.

I also rarely find steel in traders. When i do, I find 4, or 8, or 34....so in 60% of games, I won't have the steel i need for those recipes. In 20% of games, i'll have the steel I need for one item as long as I save up and hit every trader I can find on every refresh. in 10% of games I'll have that same steel for one item before unlocking the steel perk, but only if i visit every trader every refresh and never use a single bar of steel on any repairs. Finally, in 10% of games, i'll be swimming in far more steel than I could ever use on those early recipes, just because RNG happened to give 2 different traders 30+ steel bars each on 2 different refreshes each.

I feel like most people see this topic and are like "yeah, there's certainly a bit of a disconnect there....Not necessarily saying steel needs to show up earlier or those recipes need to be later, but its just not gelling right now"....and then there's those few people who have either had absurd trader luck or have memorized the xmls and know the exact objects that can be disassembled/broken for each and every possible material in the game who tell everyone else "stop whining! Just do X"

Whether you use those recipes or not, they exist at a given level, but are deceptively incredibly difficult to actually use at the level they unlock.

TFP have decided they want level gates...fine. Level gates exist. Make them make sense with each other and within the framework of the game. Giving us access to loads of recipes where we can apparently shape steel into super complex machined shapes, but are incapable of making the raw product that we need a ton of until way later is just "gotcha!" gameplay and inherently unfun to anyone who finds themselves "gotcha'd!"

until balance relating with recepies not done, you may need to adjust xml files and lower steelworks to lvl 40.

change 70 to 40

I think the level gates are just outrageous. They were bad when the experimental first dropped and after teasing everyone with a build where they were gone, they were brought back but in a more brutal form. It's extremely aggravating.

I'm sure this has been modded; someone should drop the link to the mod if it's out yet.

My post in another thread:

I liked in earlier experimentals that we could craft steel for repairs and mods when we unlocked the forge and made a crucible. Go ahead and level gate the steel tools, that's fine, just please stop level gating the steel itself.

Oh yea, I just remembered that I have been able to craft special bolts and arrows since I was level 28. Can't make the arrow heads until 70.... Super legit.
