PC Some constructive criticism (based on MM's newest video)

One other thing on the videos.

Either have a different person make them, one who can show and discuss the changes in a structured and logical manner and who knows how to actually play the game, or, send someone round to MM's house and have them beat him to a point where his movements become sluggish so that I dont have to suffer through his constant random, irrational movement of the mouse all over the screen like he is having a goddam epileptic seizure.

Thats all.

If the zombies disappear on death, then you're tipped off even more by the fact that ~any~ prone zombie must in fact be a sleeper. And since the sleeper must awaken...well you know.
I was talking about zombies you are battling. When you knock them down it is not always apparent whether they are down for good or not. Makes you uneasy turning your back on them.

You are correct about sleepers.

It's a cold foggy day in London and your joints hurt right?

Roland has eased a lot of my concern when it comes to these mechanics. I'll wait to see a video showing the new skill system before I have an opinion (which even then wouldn't be my final opinion on the matter since as I've said multiple times I'm waiting until I actually play to give my final verdict on these mechanics) though one thing I did notice is that when MM leveled up in the video he only gained one skill point instead of five.
Everything costs 1 skill point. The economy of skill points is completely different and may still be in flux.

How many people watched MM's video muted? He CLEARLY says that dead dead zombies will have their corpse time lengthened.

I am in all love for almost everything this update. Only dodgy thing is how scarce Zombie loot appears. It feels like it's taking away the satisfactory of a killing a zombie, and with the new punishing AI, I think a reward, good or not, should at least be there to fill a gap after a death.

But, I think I'll still enjoy it. Zombies aren't meant to be fun. We'll have to see.

I read that we'll have much less perk points in A17, so how much will we be gimping ourselves to go back to backpack size of A16? It's already quite tight with loot. I don't mind not being able to carry much, but I mind not being able to carry much in terms of variety. I would prefer a weight based backpack system.
There's no comparison with A16 as the skill point economy is completely different.

In A16 you start with 32 slots. In A17, you get 5 skill points from doing the introductory tutorial quest. If you spend two of them on strength you will basically begin the game with 31 slots. If you spend three of them you will basically start the game with 33 slots. 2-3 skill points out of the entire game is negligible.

Now spending skill points to open up the entire 45 slot backpack is going to have an opportunity cost somewhere else for sure.

Choices Choices

With the Zombie loot change, going out of your way to kill a Zombie within your FOV seems like a waste of time now. The only Zombies you want to kill now are direct threats. Otherwise, this game has turned more into stealth then ever before.

just not true..

now every zombie is simply more dangerous and risky to kill (if you don't smash it enough).

with less loot it's even more important to kill all zombies you find.. and don't forget the xp for the kill! (even now with all the loot i usually go out to kill 2-3 hordes just for xp)

i really like the change di-per-se and the whole way the game is changing(less is more), the only negative points are the "missing" resources (i loved to gather tons of meat/fat/bones for ages) and the awful way to cleanup the corpse for now (just disappear).

We are going to need build calculators for 7 days :D

I don't want to buy the extra inventory slots at the end of the game when I know I have extra points to spend. I want them in the beginning but without locking myself out of the stuff i definitely need...

There is no Stuff You Definitely Need.

You will just not be great at everything.

By building your character as you go there is little waste in points - unlike selecting a "class" or specialisation before you even start the game and know how anything works.

But my character isn't complete unless I've got the Marshmallow Toasting VII and One Handed Origami IX skills!

Yes, nearly everyone who saw the video feels the same as you do. As do pretty much everyone who plays the game regularly. Will it get changed? Hard to say.
Lots of assumptions there...I disagree.

That explains why there have been no posts on here, steam, reddit, or youtube massively bashing the changes. Whew! Close one!

Seriously though. If nothing is as concerning as it looks, go ahead and release experimental so we can see for ourselves. Or make a gameplay video that shows that it's all a big misunderstanding. Why ya'll haven't had professional streamers do this for you is beyond me

The assumptions were "nearly everyone," "feels the same," and "pretty much everyone." Questioning those broad assertions means that "nothing" is wrong? It can only be an all-or-nothing?

...snip.. Why ya'll haven't had professional streamers do this for you is beyond me
It is Madmoles game, besides you would likely be upset if "those streamers" were showing it instead of MM or another dev. Relax a bit and give some good input after you've had a chance to play.

In my opinion the total of the changes being made are good, tweaking to make it play better will come from feedback during experimental.

With little to no loot, the RvR is out the window. So avoiding Zombies now instead of killing any and all of them does turn into a waste of time. As I said, only FOV Zombie threats need to be killed now. Actively seeking Zombies out to kill them isn't good time/resource management with this change.

This is more survival-like than farming zombies like cattle. Hopefully, kill exp goes away as well and actual death consequences get introduced.
