So we're losing our progress? Should we expect this with future updates as well?

It sounds like we're losing our saved games and all the progress that we spent tons of effort working on... whatever the update does have awesome stuff... but will this continue to happen with future updates ?.... when are we safe to start building... Xbox version here

Yeah, until 4.0 drops, I expect this will still be a thing. TFP stated in the 1.0 release that they would try to avoid it, but I honestly don't see how that is possible unless they make it so that the game client will see the save is an older version, and load code/configs relevant to that version.

Remember that the game is intended to be played many times with many different games and not just once. Starting a new game isn't really a big deal with this game. And there is plenty of warning before a new major release, so you can plan whether or not to start a new game based on the amount of time you think you'll have before the update. And you can always not update until your current game is done. Also, minor updates like 2.1 shouldn't normally require a new save. You should only see that with the major updates (2.0, 3.0, 4.0).

Not sure why, but with certain games not only do I not mind starting over, but look forward to it. 7 Days is one, also Subnautica and Green Hell.

I think it's the idea of looking forward to building a better base or doing something new or better next time.

I think it relates to how the replayability is. A typical RPG usually won't get played repeatedly because it is the same map and story of you okay it again. Some work because there is enough variation if you use different characters. For a game like this, you will play more games than just about any other game. I don't think I've come close to add many individual games I've played in 7 Days with any other game. But there are a few that I've put more hours into, though not many.

Same here. Though I don't think I have ever really completely finished Subnautica or Green Hell. They just don't hold my focus as well as 7 Days does.

Never played Subnautica, but I have played Green Hell and after building a base and doing a lot of exploring, I'd get bored and start over placing my base in a different location and always coming up with a way to build something better. But after a while, it would get pretty boring. Keep always coming back to 7 days, get tired of a map, delete it, start a new/different seed and its totally different. Unlike in green hell it was just 1 island, the landscape never changed. Would get boring very fast because of that.

Yea, agreed. With RPGs, they're usually so involved and require investing so much time in building up your character that it's pretty daunting, intimidating starting over a new game. The exception being The Elder Scrolls games for me. I always look forward to starting over with a new character. I've sunk countless hours in Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim because of this. Really hoping for a Morrowind remaster. The depth in that game is incredible.

It definitely sucks to start over. What I end up doing is stop playing a month or two before the next big update because I have been playing for 10 years now and have dealt with this on every big update. If you did ever play on PC, you can keep playing old versions anytime you want.
