Simple improvements, can be thrown together.

1. Any non walled base built near the trader , gates destroyed by the zombies.
even if no player in the area , just throw it in a job queue to be removed.

2. loot all un-walled boxes outside traders.

3. put a timer on ALL airdrops to be looted by zombies.

final part of above.
all the loot goes into a special "loot queue" , this loot then appears in any zombie in the area randomly , until it is collected.

So basically you suddenly make the zombies way more valuable. when a chunk goes out of range & the zombie de-spawns, the loot goes back in the special queue.

this gets round people whinge about "rubbish loot" at lower levels.
higher level, you add a check box option to do the same to players that get killed, giving the player a chance to recover their loot , in the general area , instead of hte straight backpack recovery.

Uhh...what would zombies want with airdrops? There's no food/flesh for em in it, and they certainly can't use any of the items, since they'd need to have cognitive function to do so.
If you watched any of the TFP Youtube streams, someone already asked them if there'll be an option where if your character dies, your character turns into a zombie and you'll have to kill your zombie self to get all your belongings/backpack back, one of em liked the idea, so they may add that option down the road.

Why would i want my char to become a zombie?
and how would you know what I watched or did not watch?

Perhaps it is you that needs to "study up", and watch more videos
I have often found food in air drops on vanilla systems............, infact there was a pie only recently.

and if your point was in the LEAST bit valid about them not needing the items....

why the hell do they carry loot bags, or infact why do bears, and other animals carry loot bags?

Did they get caught in the fur or something?

if your character was a zombie, it would be more challenging to get your loot back, like on ZombieU (or Zombi on PS4), than going to "straight backpack recovery".
Zombies only eat living things, or at least fresh flesh and there's nothing like that in airdrops.
They have loot cause they had items on em before they died. Zombie bears and dire wolves have loot, cause they're like a designated boss zombie by TFP and drop way better and more loot than all other zombies.

To be fair, the bags are just a way to put things into a container for game purposes. It's just whatever the enemy had with them. As far as bears and stuff, maybe it's what was inside their stomachs after eating zombies and players. I wouldn't look at the bags as being actual bags that were being carried around.

As far as air drops go, I wouldn't try to find a way to say that they'd be interested in what's in the air drops, but just say that they are attracted to the light, smoke, sound of it. More realistic and doesn't take any imagination for it to make sense. Especially when most air drops won't have food, even if some do.
