Shorter trader quest distances

Hello!

I'm curious about if I can customise the trader quests distance in the xmls, does anyone know?

Thank you :)

I also would like to figure this out. Made a map 16km by 16km and all the trader quests are like 8km away now. I found a distance property that the burried supplies and treasure use, but have yet to get it to work with the RandomPOIGoto objective.

Edit: Found you can replace "RandomPOIGoto" with "ClosestPOIGoto" but using that it wont give you a map marker when you accept it, you have to move around until you see your distance start to decrease, once you get close enough it will show the quest marker and act like normal quest. Plus that would make all quests go to that POI and as you could imagine get super repetitive lol.

Perhaps someone with more experience messing around with the quest.xml can help us out.

I third this. Especially in the early game the long distances lock the player in an iron triangle of hunger / stamina / limited inventory thermal annoyance. I think halving the average current distance would be just about right.

Yeah I believe they made them using the default map size of 4km by 4km which then wouldn't be so bad. If you use something larger like 8km which is popular for multiplayer servers or even 16km then the trader just selects at random a POI from the list which could be like 10km away easy.

The trader quest doesn’t give you any benefit from completing. For MP I highly recommend just creating a lobby with traders inside it.

It’s only a few hours of play till vehicles and then OCD types can finish quest no problem ;)

OK, that's not so hard, but it doesn't feel like it's in the spirit of the game arc. Newb -> first trader -> first quests seems like it should be well in advance of the minibike.

Haven't found a way to add custom quests to the trader quest menu yet but I have created a work around that I plan to use on my server, this is what it is basically.

Challenge Quest to scout for supplies, Quest activated by using an item (can make craftable or loot item etc.)

Once you start the quest you are told a random location between 500-800 meters. (can customize this distance value)

Once you get to that location it then finds the closest quest POI to you and gives you a fetch quest for that location.

You complete the fetch quest and get white river supplies (can change this to be a clear/clear-fetch or whatever in theory)

Then just bring those supplies to any trader and he will reward you same as he would if you got the fetch quest from him.

The primise of this quest is you are scouting buildings that could contain loot a trader would find useful, you find some supplies and bring them to a trader, kinda like a freelance fetch quest.

This way every time you start this quest the POI should be within 1 or 2 km away.

You can adjust the rewards to be whatever, only draw back is the quest poi will be random in terms of level, could be tier 1 to 5, so no way of making the rewards greater for harder tier building. (at least no way that I have found yet)

Yeah, I feel like the distance should scale with Tier of quest given by the trader. T1 early game quests should be much closer than they are on the larger maps.

Though from this thread it seems no-one has found a way to modify the quest POI selection range. Disappointing.

I'm sorry, I'm a fool with this stuff. I tried but how exactly do you change the info in the game's files and save it?

Well @June Bird, You go into the data config folder in the 7daystodie main folder, and edit quests xml- I've done this myself, trying to tweak distances and such, but i haven't been able too, you can use "Closestpoi" but that doesn't use a distance, The burried treasures do, so it says sort of.. maybe there's a way to apply them to that?
