PC Setting to stop animals from despawning?

I did some tests regarding Animal Tracking and found that most animals are despawning at the 50m mark while being tracked.  While not being tracked they are also despawning at the 50m mark but occasionally will survive to the 100m mark.  Is there a setting or something I need to change to stop them from despawning so close?  We've been wondering why we aren't finding very many animals and now I'm wondering if they are all just despawning.

No idea if it will help but maybe try this: on each animal in entityclasses.xml add this property:  <property name="IsChunkObserver" value="false"/>
