PC Screamer is showing up constantly.....

I have the latest build and noticed that the screamer is showing up constantly, while I enjoy taking out the hordes its basically all I can do. Any reason why this is the case? I have no torches, no heat sources so I have no idea.

No forge going on?

No food being cooked?

No concrete mixer on?

You aren't mining/cutting trees?

If screamers appear, you do one of these.

Do you have torches up?

We've found we can run several forges 24/7 and cook food and run the cement mixers and get like one screamer a day.

You put up torches and it's a never-ending stream.

Define "constantly" (be honest)!

I've placed 20 to 30 torches on the outer walls and around every base I've ever built since alpha14. I run Forges when I need to run Forges and never think abut it (2 forges per player on average). I do not have Screamer "problems". For me they occur at a rate of 6 to 8 per day, which is totally fine.

Footnote: Right now Screamers have far too few HP to make them remotely threatening. They die very fast on Iron Spikes and are one- (sometimes two-) shotted by a Rifle headshot. I actually think they need their HP considerably buffed.

I don't know if it's still the case, but other activities used to raise heat. Breaking blocks especially, but even jumping up and down would raise the heat by one. Of course, if you are shooting the zombies that come from the screamer you are going to raise the heat up again. Are you using an auger by any chance? A chainsaw?

I remember in one of the past Alphas if you cut too many trees in an area you would raise the heat of the region too much and make screamers appear.

Heatmap, all comes down to heatmap. https://7daystodie.gamepedia.com/Heatmap

Just being in the area doing nothing over a long enough time will generate heat. So if you stay in one spot...eventually a zed will show up to see what is going on. At higher levels then higher level "scouts" will be sent out to see what all the heat is about. We get screamers every hour on the hour almost but sometimes its a pack of zombie dogs or just a horde. I think we had a swarm of vultures hanging around our roof out of the blue at one point that seemed to just show up one night. Passive walls just do not cut it in the long run, you need spikes and or turrets if you don't want to run outside every so often and take care of the door to door zeds.

Right now if we hear the screamer coming we can either sneak out and head shot her or wait a minute or so and the spikes will take care of it for us. The only annoying part is if it is a quiet screamer and we don't notice her. Then we go outside for sometimes and.....mini horde. Then she might even spawn another screamer or two.....mini horde night. And there goes whatever I was about to do on the back burner while I deal with them.

Honestly a nice threat increase would be for screamers to occasionally at random wander up in stealth mode, and just find some spot to hide behind and wait for you to come in sight. Keep us on our toes.

All of this might eventually (fingers crossed) lead to NPC's and or pet dogs that can handle the problem for the players at some point in the future.

Screamers are why I build underground bases. Reason #1. I run 4-8 forges. If I try that above ground, I often cannot even leave my base because screamers pop up like popcorn at a new Avengers movie.

haha, when I am early on and need the XP I even run close to them to trigger the scream before headshotting....mo targets, mo betta....
You can do that in the early game. In the later game this can easily get out of control if you are not careful. I've had cases where one screamer called several other screamers and they called even more screamers. It was quite a mess until I had them all dead.

I'm not saying it's good or bad but 6 to 8 a game day would qualify as constant to me.

Once you can get a turret up with a motion sensor the problem is solved. Have to deal with it until then though.
