My friends and I would love to see a machine/station where scrapping items can be done instead of backing up the player's crafting queue and clogging inventory. What are the chances of something like this happening?

Pretty sure you can't just scrap stuff in the workbench.

I'm pretty sure you can only scrap certain things in the workbench, some others scrap in your personal queue. But workbench can take a lot of load off.
Metal things you're better off smelting unless you get that bug where you can't use some of what you smelted in. Scrapping them loses a lot of metal compared to smelting. Raw iron is 5 smelt, 3 scrap for an example.
