played last night and had no problems , day 23 had motorcycle autoshotgun steel club good times.

Got up today and loaded my save.  It starts a new game for me, Like I am starting a new game.  WTF did you guys do , some kind of stealth patch that @%$#ed up my save?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?

Sounds like a corrupted player profile; I don't know if those are "properly" fixable. Level 1, no gear etc?

If you want to try to recover / recreate, f1: dm, cm, "giveselfxp 100000" (repeat as needed) .. while cm is up, 'u' opens a menu to spawn in gear. While dm is up, you can teleport via the map (some combo of ctrl or shift and one of the mouse buttons, can't remember which). Should get you somewhat sorted, although getting back exactly to where you were (quests, challenges) isn't really possible (or can be, I just don't know how).

But hey, it's an early access game, these things happen, no worries we'll fix them before release - oh wait.. :(

Are you on day 1?  If not, then your save was corrupted, usually due to incorrectly closing the game or a crash, though there may be other reasons.  You would need to use console commands and creative menu to get back to the level you were and any items that might have been lost.  If you know the game didn't close correctly, replace your save with the backup before starting the game.  You might be back a few minutes, but you will have your level and items and such.

If you are on day 1, check to make sure you take loaded your save.  You can click manage saves to check your saves.

Edit: As theFlu says, it can also be your profile getting deleted or corrupted so it doesn't know which player you were in the game (if not on day 1).

Was this on PC? If so, are you saving to your PC or is it a cloud save?

EDIT: Never mind, I don;t think this game has cloud save.

Not built in, but there are other ways, I use a copy program to copy my save game file to my Dropbox everyday.

What's the "improper" way to close the game? I alt-f4 all the time with no issues, OTOH, I do backup my save like every game day.

If something happened with your profile, the save files will still be there, just not where the game shows them, because it thinks you are a different player.

I had this happen when I disabled EGS phone home and I was forced to play in offline mode.

I was able to salvage my save games with minimal effort.

User files are in: %appdata%\7DaysToDie\

Anything that isn't exiting normally via the menu options.  Alt+F4 will corrupt any file that is currently being accessed on the disk.

So basically, you are saying you have been hella lucky.

I do it all the time, especially since half the time the game refuses to close from the menu.

Although I tend to hit escape at that point, which pauses the game, which I'm pretty sure pauses writes to the files.

Nobody is that lucky consistently.

Alt-F4 is never the right way to close a game.  It should be used only if you can't close it any other way.  There will always be the chance in any game to corrupt something when doing that.  Being paused will limit the exposure to corrupted saves and profiles, but I wouldn't count on that.  If the game isn't closing the correct way (ESC > Exit Game), then you should take time to find out why and correct the problem rather than trusting that Alt-F4 will never cause you problems.

Also got an error today on Steam that there was an issue with my save and saving to cloud. Closed the game properly last time I played and never had any other errors or crashes, so there is definitely some sort of an issue going on.

EDIT: Lost a bicycle as far as I can. Not sure if anything else.
