I also have the GTX 1080, and I would love to get even the 3070. I have always been a buy a new video card every couple of years guy since the TNT II.

PC gaming has been about the video card since the Voodoo and Voodoo II. Its always been an expense that PC gamers have been willing to pay, so the video card companies have been capitalizing on this by adding the latest greatest video card that costs the same as a top of the line gaming console.

Save up some money.  Cut out things u buy on a daily basis like coffee or desert.  Set it aside specifically for a card fund.  It may take time but you will be thrilled when u finally get it.  Do it :)

Not the coffee and desert! I have homeowners, property taxes and DMV registration coming up, I do not have the money for that right now.

That is truly a good idea though I could put a little aside I suppose, but by the time I saved enough the other expenses would be due again. One good thing is that this will give me time to make sure the GTX 30 series is worth the upgrade.

I just found this when looking up the Voodoo5 5500 that I could not get to work in my PCI slot back in 1999.


I have a bit of a time wondering who came up with this, someone has an interesting sense of humor, only a PC gamer would get a kick out of it.

in preparation for the new Ryzen and RTX lineup. I plan on getting the RTX 3080 as well as Ryzen 4060 or better depending on prices. They will be replacing my Ryzen 1600x and GTX 1060 FTW+ (and 16GB of ram, Asus B350 Plus motherboard). That older system will then be moved on to be my new game hosting server replacing my crappy but seemingly good enough FX 8320 based server, lol. The FX 8320 will then be passed on to my parents. I love recycling. :p

I had no idea AMD made another FX possessor, I had the AMD FX 4000 for a while before I went with the AMD 4200 X2. I still have my FX 4000 in my computer toolbox, I think it the only CPU I ever saved and I do not know why.

That Voodoo 5 was hilarious. In the video when he turned it on, I laughed so hard when the fans spun up.... and then he ran Crysis, because of course he did, lol.

The FX 8320 is about 8 years old. There's a few others that are even "better". Of course I say that loosely.

 
The CPU I have is the 4000+ for the 939 motherboards, the original FX series was the Athlon 64 FX. This was when AMD was a good idea for gaming until the Core 2 came out. I guess now AMD is getting better but I still like Intel for gaming, if I wanted a workstation or server I would think threadripper rather than Xeon.

You do know that AMD is expected to officially be better at per core performance with this new lineup (already is compared with most of them) and Intel still to this day has nothing left to offer aside from even heavier overclocks which I think at this point they reached their limit on that, at least until 2022, and even then no one is expecting them to catch up for at least a year or two after that.

Also, isn't the Core 2 Duo the one where they faked the benchmarks to make AMD look worse? There was even a lawsuit where they lost and had to pay their customers a small partial refund for their false performance. EDIT: Maybe that was a different one cuz I can't find a source anymore.

Those GPU´s look sweet. Can´t wait for the benchmarks. But even if they exxagerated, they should still be pretty impressive. Still not gonna get one, i have a FHD monitor and a GTX1070. Unless someone gifts me a decent WQHD monitor there is no reason to upgrade for me.

The price is what surprised me the most. Just hoping that they give the 3060 8GB of RAM this time.

@bobrpggamer Intel may still has a small advantage in gaming. But that costs you more and if you ever deceide to do anything else than gaming you are better of with AMD.

Also Intel capping the RAM speed on no all non Z490 motherboards is basically taking a crap on their customers tbh.

Of course they exaggerated, it's what they do. But ya, it's still going to be a nice leap forward and the best part is running ray tracing won't be such a thin line with fps anymore. The price surprised me quite a bit too, though it's still very expensive due to lack of competition.

Pff... 2080...3080... there are still people here playing 7d2d on a microwave oven or lg fridge))) Still have my old desktop with Phenom X4 9950 and GTX 560, but it just stands there in the most obscure corner of my room, and play on a MacBook pro 2018 with i7 and a Radeon Pro X555... Potato masher and a frying pan all in one... While im typing this message the CPU die temp is 63 C... Idling...

 
Well If I was to upgrade to RTX from my GTX 1080, what would be best matched with a i7 9700k, 3070, 3080 or 3090?

You can still benefit from all 3 without bottleneck, though the 3090 is considered to be the new Titan card... waste of money in my opinion. 3070 is the new 2080ti.

 
I upgraded from the 1070 to the RTX 2070 Super OC. That will be gifted to my son as I will bump up to the 3070 most likely. I'm considering the extra $200 to push to the 3080 but I'm not convinced yet. I'll wait for actual reviews to come out. There is also a mystery card from NVidia that I've heard some substantial rumors about. I assume it will be a 3060.

 
Lol!  I'm trying to get the RTX 3080 like everyone else and Newegg.ca keeps crashing from too much traffic.

And now all 12 skews of the card (and all 3090 skews as well) are out of stock before they even became in stock. I really hate bots. You would think stores would have ways of preventing those from working.

I heard there will be a RTX 3000 Titan anyway. The GA102 chip on the 3090 is still not the full configuration. There are still 20 shader modules left.

I'm still waiting for the AMD cards release. If they can compete to the 3080, i'll probably take the AMD card, if not i'll buy a 3080.

Even if AMD could compete with the 3080, you'll almost guaranteed hate the drivers / software for at least a year after release, because AMD always fails in the software / drivers department. At least with Nvidia, you get what you paid for.
