Request: Support for Multiple Modded Versions installed on the same PC

As you all well know, Steam loves to utterly destroy your install of 7d2d the moment you select a different Alpha/Version from its dropdown, so the only way to handle that is to mark each separate version a "Non-Steam" Game and run it that way.

Even with that dealt with, certain mods have Installers and a rather peculiar "you didn't do it right" mechanic if you swap mods without rerunning the installer again (Sorcery Mod).

I need a way to be able to run 7d2d a21.2 Sorcery 1.942 with Darkness Falls 4.2 and then switch up two minutes later and be on 7d2d v1.1 BlewBarry Farms Orchard (modded) without having to go through a precision neurosurgery of my PC and hope everything went well. Sometimes i don't have internet and the older versions are all i have to play and Steam doesn't want to play nice because of EOS (i need it disabled) and 7d2d doesn't want to play nice because it always wants to run all mods through the %appdata% folder now.

I used to run a18/a19 (i started a18.3) mods more aggressively, merging Sorcery with Undead Legacy and playing various modded servers besides, skipping only Ravenhearst and War3Zuk due to lack of friends asking me to play those with them. Back then of course we could have six directories of 7d2d each with its own mods and it worked beautifully.

i am asking for a way to de-spaghettify the code and make things nice and smooth like they were before the %appdata% switch, however you folks have to do that.

Start the game with parameter -UserData=/path/to/specificuserdatfolder

That way you only have to have different verslons of the main game and can use multiple overhauls per version.

Generated worlds, your saves, mods etc go into a specific userdata folder.

I go a different route but it seems a lot use sphereii's mod launcher to have different games run with different mods.

Been around for years and apparently works great.

My more complicated way is to have multiple copies of game installed and add what mods I want to each one.

More time and space to set up but works for me.

You can easily save on the space with the -UserData parameter 😉. Really overkill to have 5 copies of alpha 16.4 each with own mods, when you only need 16.4 once and only need to split the data per instance.

Yeah I have seen it mentioned. I just got lazy and been doing it this way for years so found it "comfortable".

I will eventually do it a more efficient way later. Especially when it goes gold and there are no or at least less upgrades.

Also I don't usually have the same version with different mods. Most are different versions that are modded like I may have alpha 8, 12, 16, 21 and 22 installed with different tweaks and mods.

I use the same method.  I just find it easier to have several copies of the game.  I have one each for The Wasteland, Darkness Falls, my main modded game, and a testing version that I add any new mod to, to check for compatibility and to avoid destroying my main game save.
