PC Repair kits require 5 mech parts instead of 1 forged iron now? Really?

not played very many hours in a17 yet, but i was thinking the RNG element of discovery would be transferred from just gun parts to mods that could go into all the things multiplying the rng fun finding. is this not how its working?

It's relative to your perspective on it I guess. The mods to me personally are meh, to others they really enjoy it. Gun mods are easily found or acquired through the trader (atleast for now). I just miss the search for better engines for the minibike, finding the minibike book, finding schematics, or auger/chainsaw parts. Seems everything is just given to you once you can unlock it now. the game is still fun, just not as fun to me as it was before. I used to have to pack up and go on 2-3 day trips just to loot places I've never been. Now I just need to kill zombies, level, unlock, and go to the trader. Just my opinion though.

Oh really? How are you supposed to spend a whole day wrenching cars if the wrench only lasts for 18 hits before needing repaired...WITH FORGED STEEL? Yes, traders which are now sparse, might have forged steel 10% of the time.
You can axe those boxes in houses and get mechanical parts. Scrap guns, etc.

Sorry, didn't read all posts. Just wanted to say I like the change. I ALWAYS have 50+ mechanical parts by around day 2-3. I thought, and continue to think, that this is actually a positive change.
I have +100 on day 4 so that is what made me brainchild this. Anyway I nerfed repair kits to use 2 mech parts, from 5 so it should still be a bit easier. Now if I can just find some oil.

My last two playthroughs, I found my first wrenches on Day 3 and Day 6 respectively. They were both level 1, with 25% and 40% durability left. The one with 40% was enough to scrap two cars and I got a few mech parts. The 25% one lasted 18 hits and I got maybe 2 mech parts from it. Last playthrough, I never could repair my wrench because after traveling 88km, I had only found one single trader and he never updated with any forged steel in his stock. The first playthrough, I only found two traders that were 4km apart, and one finally had some forged steel to buy on Day 13. And of course you can't craft forge steel until you have 8 INT and 4 Forge perks now, so the only option in early gameplay to repair wrenches is hoping that RNGesus blesses the trader with forged steel.
Harvest safes for forged steel. The one you broke into already.

5 mech parts, 5 iron, it doesn't matter to me how much of either is needed. For me it's the lack of duct tape lol. I've had bad RNG for duct tape lately and when the trader doesn't have it I definitely feel the hurt lol.
What? I just make gobs of it. Go kill animals and harvest all the bone piles and cook the bone to glue in the cooking pot, then harvest every drape you see so you have stacks of cloth, and make your own.

Yep, exactly.

Don't want to be a spoiler but the house Grace appeared to have lived in is also an amazing place to stock up on bones. It's also a Quest POI so all them bones respawn...

I am actually having a rough start this time lol. I ended up in the wasteland and died from thirst, then a dog got me on the way to my backpack (drop everything on death) right after spawning lmao. Died twice on day 3, not from difficulty, from unbalanced mechanics and RNG. That's more than I've died in the last 2 play-throughs combined. And that is roughly a total of 100 in game days lol.
Still no problem with mechanical parts though XD
I hit every little corner ruins buildings. They have cupboard with usually a cooking pot and a toilet with 1-3 murky water, so I'm set on water for sure every play through. Make red tea so it last longer.

Harvest safes..... Brilliant. Bones from Grace house, also brilliant. Next playthrough is gonna be even better. Some of us are new players and these tips n tricks are really gonna help. Cheers!

Most the time when people knee jerk about things they don't know ALL the details or rare tricks. Heck I'm still learning things because I'm not designing every little thing. I didn't know about gun safes until recently.

Harvesting materials by wrenching gun safes?

Prior to that it was more efficient to wrench office chairs and shopping carts. Which also gave you leather to create a bellows.

No it's not that they don't know all the details. It's just you guys are changing the rules on practically every update :) .

Lol welcome to Experimental.

I haven't even gotten that far yet to create repair kits but even I know that 5 mech parts was too much. Yeah mech parts are 'plentiful' but iron/clay to create forged iron was heaps more plentiful. Think about how much iron ore you can get when finding an iron lode/deposit. Probably 2-4 stacks of 1000 iron ore. Then smelt that and you get tons of iron. Clay is everywhere so it is not an issue in a17.

Probably need more feedback to see how this change affects MP games.

Wait what?

You didn't know gun safes existed?

why the hell do you even need so many repair kits early on? If you wanna use alot of guns and vehicles, then go work.I never craft repair kits early game, what i find from loot is more than enough.

Thing is, you really don't you can get by with a bow till late game,I can repair that with wood, they made aiming with the bow even better this patch!

my end game load out usually consisted of Sniper/AK and a sledge hammer and 99% of the time I used the sledge. Conserving ammo, prior to end game loadout it was a bow and any melee weapon. There was some adjustments made since melee and stam are very...eh...cumbersome right now till you can farm up delicious corn bread.

You can craft mechanical parts, you could last patch too. The only time I really needed them was for repairing my auger.

Yes I know it's experimental. I'm just saying we can't know the details/rare tricks if things keep changing all the time. So it's ok/normal to have knee-jerk reactions in such cases, just as it is ok to make changes in experimental.

Well that's a fair point I suppose.

No. He didn’t know they harvested into forged steel. Neither did I until I read this thread.

But nice try for a “dev who doesn’t know his own game” moment...
