PC Repair kits require 5 mech parts instead of 1 forged iron now? Really?

This is Royal deluxe
You get more than enough mech parts by disassembling Grey weapons.
Doesn't get past the point of it being pretty stupid and a change that was not needed in the first place. Same can be said of the bellows recipie. Then again on the flip side, with how often you dismantle guns to get the ammo/because they don't sell for much you'll almost always have some of those parts on hand.

5 mech parts is no big deal now even for low levels but Forged Iron is a bit tougher to get at start...
so Day One you can make a repair kit for your main gun... by scrapping lvl1 guns or taking a mission from the trader and before clicking the bouncing "!" go clear the POI and scrap EVERYTHING... then go click the Bouncing "!" and it resets the whole POI ... Fridge, ovens, safes, lights etc...

I actually prefer not needing forged Iron day one.
Yeah, I don't do this as to me its exploiting/cheating. Then again I use my own "cheats" like setting light value of mining helm/the headlamp mod to 0.001 so I can actually use the light and not have every zombie see me from miles away. Light value=how much it effects the stealth meter, 0.001 means it doesn't move it and zombies do not see it period. Just don't set it to 0, I tried that once and console puked a red error at me for it. Was in a16.4 though, but I assume the same thing might happen, 0.001 is bascally 0 anyway.

That's the great thing about opinions....everyone's got one. I don't find the change stupid at all.

When I first seen it I was like "Wtf why?" then I remembered I almost ALWAYS have a ongoing stack of mechanical parts in my inventory then I was like "Hmmm this is not so bad actually." I do wish they;d get rid of electric parts though and just fuse it with mechanical parts as "Spare parts" Just a personal thing, as I feel the game has way to much clutter as it is, and more keeps being added each alpha.

I've never been one to use a gun as my go to weapon (melee/archer) and I never use an auger so I have never needed tons of repair kits. Mech parts make a helluva lot more sense in a repair kit than forged iron does. The amount of them per kit? Remains to be seen if balance is needed.

5 mech parts, 5 iron, it doesn't matter to me how much of either is needed. For me it's the lack of duct tape lol. I've had bad RNG for duct tape lately and when the trader doesn't have it I definitely feel the hurt lol.

This just allows people who do character builds without an early forge and easier way to repair their weapons. Mech parts are EVERYWHERE. Just spend a day and do nothing but disassemble all the crap outside and in the POIs you've cleared and you'll be loaded with them and pretty much every basic mat. If you do that - oil is still the bottleneck at first.

I do agree though that the quantity of the mechanical parts required per repair kit is a little excessive. I think two or three per kit is more reasonable. (since you get three from scrapping most of the weapons - just seems logical that a maximum of three is what's needed to repair )
Yeah.

I don't mind the change, I just think they went a little overboard.

Maybe 2-3 parts ... not five.

By the time I need a stack of 50 repair kits I cannot foresee myself having problems with Mech Parts. Wouldn't make sense to me to have a non-gated recipe like that easy to make in bulk early. To sideline a bit, Wrenching is a viable way to get by. Just spent an hour in creative doing a "Toilet & Brown Sedan" test session with a variety of levels of wrench/perks. Trying to figure a way to perk/gear to be able to quickly two-shot a toilet lol. In my SP game I haven't mined a single boulder, but did have 600+ iron pipes for a cool 6k iron in my forge.

Yeah.

Well 2-3 sounds reasonable.

Tomorrow i make my first "Boulders and Cars" run in B233.

Then i have a more solid meaning.

Until now i have enough Bones (Glue/Ducttape) and mech parts for day 14.

(Thanks to my defense that let dogs pass i have 24 Bones from D14 Bloodmoon. Additional to the ones i get on a normal way)

Wrenched 5-10 cars so far in 14-16 days

You don't need to wrench anything to find mechanical parts. You can get them by breaking the "shamway small appliance" cardboard boxes that are all over the POIs. Those drop wood, polymer, mech and electrical parts in small amounts.

Not sure these will give you enough.

If you're driving and using guns and other activities [nailgun, chainsaw], you will run out of kits.

Basically you probably need to wrench stuff as well.... but these help.

mid/late game I'm wrenching cars like crazy for radiators (bullet casings), batteries (bullet tips), lead pipes (bullet tips), and engines (generator banks). Having mechanical parts should never be a worry. My guess is the change was meant as way to allow you to make repair kits early game while allowing us to conserve any forged iron found to make tool repairs pre-forge. I think it was a great idea and not sure why people are upset at all. I've literally never had any issue acquiring mechanical parts early game?...

Yeah so far.... I haven't either.

It's going okay.

This game has been pretty good though.

I don't know if I'd be saying the same if I was having a rougher start [and it happens sometimes.]

We'll see.

A little more testing and then we'll know better.

For now I'd say 3 rather than 5 per kit seems more balanced.

I am actually having a rough start this time lol. I ended up in the wasteland and died from thirst, then a dog got me on the way to my backpack (drop everything on death) right after spawning lmao. Died twice on day 3, not from difficulty, from unbalanced mechanics and RNG. That's more than I've died in the last 2 play-throughs combined. And that is roughly a total of 100 in game days lol.

Still no problem with mechanical parts though XD

Hahaha well that settles it.

Sorry man I don't mean to laugh but that's a really crummy start hahahahaha.

It's mostly funny because I think we've all been there.

I was laughing too haha, and my stream definitely was lmao.

I was taking damage from thirst, looting everything as quick as I could. I dropped a bedroll, ran into a large hotel (condos maybe?) and the building started collapsing (thanks RWG lul). All the refrigerators where not lootable ffs, cupboards had no water. Ran across the street to a building in shambles and was running through zombies left and right trying to find something/anything.... nothing... dead.

Spawn, walk 10 feet, silent dog.... dead.

Spawn, buddy showed up and dispatched dog, I walk 15ft and see a dufflebag.... jar of water :::facepalm:::

Crafting mech parts requires forged steel, which requires Hammer and Forge 4, which requires Intellect 8. Also, you lowered the gating on the forge, but have now gated the anvil and made it require a stupid amount of materials to build. Those who spend time finding a forge in the world can now no longer use it without an anvil, because not only does it require ungodly materials to build, but it's also gated behind the same exact perk that is required to build a forge. This makes world found forges nearly useless, save for making forged iron bars.
All these recipe changes, constant mechanic changes, with little to no documentation or explanation is getting really old. There were so many things working nearly perfectly in a16 that have now been absolutely destroyed.
Its the same as alpha 16. You repaired guns with guns. Now you scrap guns to mech parts. What else are you going to do with all those old guns?

Forged iron is all you need to fix the iron tools you've found.

So funny!

Really glad you got that while Streaming.

This game is entertaining.

Even when it's kicking you around it's fun.

Yes and thank you for the changes to guns!!!

I HATED having to go through my "Guns" cupboard to deal with all the gun parts.

You can only sell so many so..... aaaaaaaaaaall the time wasted upgrading parts so I could sell a 600Q gun.

Bleh... no thanks!

This new system is leaps and bounds better!

I used to part my guns right when I brought them back to base. That way I wouldn't have to manually sort for parts. If the part wasn't a decent level I would scrap it and not even put it in the box. It was a pretty good system for me. I enjoyed it. To each their own though. I just miss the RNG element of this game for meaningful items (my opinion). Now I just hope to find duct tape and glue.

Yeah there's that.

Seems like we've gained a lot and given up a few things for it.

I'd still take A17 [with some tweaks] over A16 but.... man.... that build had some really great things about it!
