PC Relaxed Run changes the game.

I know there are plenty of people who rip the traders out of the game, something I am not ready to do.

But anyone else ignore the traders?   I think I only did the initial buried supply quest, and noped right out to  find a town to live in.

I've been clearing the town, preparing my hoard base.  Crafting more equipment.  My crafting skills are quite low compared to what I normally have by now.

It's been a lot of fun.  It makes the game feel way different, because I am not rushing quests.

Even if you do quests there is no need to rush. There is no time limit, even for the generator quests it´s only a time window, but you can do them a week after accepting them.

The rush is self made.

But i prefer no traders also. Quest rewards and buying things is kinda like easy mode.

I just set the quest limit to one. Then I do one quest each morning and spend the rest of the day doing other things. I don't think quests have to be ignored completely but when their footprint in the game is reduced it does make a big difference.

Same goes for magazines. If you relax about them and just read them as you find them while playing instead of focusing all your time on trying to grind up the skill ladder, it changes the game.

It's not for everyone but I wholeheartedly agree.  Getting off the trader quest treadmill is the best change I have made to my game play and I enjoy the game more.

There are certainly pros and cons. My last playthrough was completely trader-free and I thoroughly enjoyed the freedom I got from not feeling like I always had to be questing. I also liked the challenge that it added. But after clearing a few towns, I ran into the same issue that playing with a trader has- you eventually get to a point where you don't feel like there's anything left to accomplish. An endgame will help with that, but I also don't see that as a bad thing. The fun I get from the game is in its re-playability from playthrough to playthrough.

As a side note, getting rid of traders in your generated world is fairly simple to do:

  1. Go to 'Prefabs' in 7DTD game folders
  2. Remove all Trader files - just look for any file with the word "trader" in it (I generally cut and paste them in a different folder altogether)
  3. Generate your world
  4. Place the files back into their original folder

The only time I push trader quests is Tier 1 if I want to get the bike faster.

For the most part, I do the same thing as Roland and limit myself to one quest a day max.  A lot of times, I will select a quest but it may be a few days before I even do the quest.  I do spend a lot of time looting POIs and doing base setup

My gameplay has always been this way.  Advance them as I explore and go through POIs, but I don't focus on getting them to a specific level by a specific date.  I find it more enjoyable playing with what I have at that stage than stressing myself out in trying to get to a specific point.

Oh yeah, this is a bit transformative for me.  I am not ready to remove the traders, but I am basically using them as if I go to the store once a week.

Sure my gear progression is slow, but that's okay.

I mainly use them as an anti RNG mechanic.  But I could just as easily do so without them, if I am willing to put up with not finding "the one thing" the RNG has decided not to provide.

I've played without traders, but not for very long, mostly because the time I was doing it was right after they'd changed some POIs so that they always had certain types of spawns regardless of player level, so I went into a house I'd taken over quite often before to use as a base, and got wrecked by a feral on Day 1 when I was like level 3.  Didn't help I was trying to use knives for the first time in ages.

That said, I once played without the forest biome, starting in the desert, and I got infected about 5 minutes after starting (stupid vultures.)  I spent the entire week trying to cure my infection, got up to like 80% infected, finally managed to cure it completely on day 8.  Would have been toast without traders, since buying honey from them (along with several herbal and regular antibiotics I managed to loot) was all that kept me from hitting 100% infected,
