Rain and other issues we have noticed

Was not a fan of some of the more recent changes and took a break from playing for a bit. The recent relaunch of jars and smells among other things brought back some nostalgic feelings so i updated and launched and have been having quite a bit of fun again (TY tfp!)

The rain though is non stop, and I don't remember it being like this. For context, i have storms turned down to 50% (unsure if that has anything to do with the actual rain days or not), our home is in the desert for the past 8 days. It has rained every day without fail. It rained every day that we (wife and I) remember from our house in the forest.

Is this expected or is there a bug? If this is expected id really like an explanation of the lore on that one :P

As for other bugs we have noticed:

-Optimization issue with travelling long distances (more then 8km in a single move), towards the end of the travel the terrain isnt loading fast enough to keep ppl from clipping through the ground briefly.

-the bandage bug still seems to exist, 1 click uses 2 bandages, manageable by only keeping on bandage on the hot bar at a time but annoying as i am the "healer" for both of us and constantly having to reload my tool bar

-log out and back in seems to rewind some progress at times, boxes we looted are now re-loot-able even though the of item is in storage/inventory

-raider outfit has a piece of it that randomly tears off the player and floats around flipping out (funny but yea)

-2 player game, when non host logs out it created a crash for "host" (only happened once, as a part of normal life with steam I just verified game files and has not happened again)

Still over all very pleased and were having fun again...more content please :)

Rain seems to be really random in this game. I've gone 20 days in this playthrough with storms at 100% and only had to deal with rain about 5 times. In previous alphas you could ignore it, but with the temperature changes, you need to arm yourself with a torch or flaming weapon in order to stay warm.

Some of the other problems you're describing sounds like lag. Are you playing on a server?

No just the 2 of us, I host when its just us 2. We have used a server before and experienced lag and your right its similar, especially after travelling the long distance. The armor piece thing though is really weird, the pic above I circled the piece of gear...it just sits there for me (normally i cant see it all as I play first person) but on my wifes screen it flutters around like the bug in spyro lol. My computer isnt anything special and I know a 10k map can be draining on resources specially when hosting. I have a few thousand hours in this game as does my wife..some fo the quirks were used to but some of this stuff is new for us

Ended up turning "storms" off, seems to have helped. The zombie AI has evolved a LOT since we last played, they just randomly take off running to go beat on a wall somewhere then come back and re engage in combat not sure I care for that tbh. Memory leak is still a thing and I would argue the optimization has taken a step backwards. Raider armor is still leaving a piece behind, hilarious but obviously bugged. Food graphics is a very nice touch, biome progression makes sense, sledge hammers and batons (I went strength and intellect build) feel OP in a lot of situations, though the lack of a solid range attack i suppose is balanced...wife is happy with bows and rifles, machine guns prolly need a small bump in dps, knives and fists still need a lot of help from what i can see

I think others have mentioned that armor bug, so it'll probably get fixed at some point. Zombies going into demo mode is definitely odd at times. I've had them run past both of us and down the street to attack something and then slowly walk back to us before seeing us again and attacking. It's funny, but doesn't really make sense. It works fine if you are in a confined space or have a lot of zombies or whatever, such as on horde night. Then it doesn't stand out as so odd. But when it's a single zombie that just runs past you and ignores you... that's just weird.

A lot of people like using knives and fists and do very well with them, so they probably aren't in a bad place. It's just a different way to play because you have to be able to get in close and not get killed from attacks. That's not easy to switch to and do well with until you've gotten used to the change. But once you know how to do it, it's probably not bad. And I've felt very OP with the machete before as it seemed to constantly be chopping off heads. Knives also work nicely for stealth play.

Regarding rain, it is not tied to storm settings. Rain isn't a storm. Storm settings are specifically the storms that do damage if you stay in them. They are not found in the forest and will warn you when they are starting. Rain is just a normal weather effect that can happen at any time. Sometimes it seems to happen a lot and other times it can not happen for a while. I don't know what the exact parameters are for that. If it seems to not be working right in your game, you could start a new game and see what happens.
