Question about "Short bus"

Hello all! Hopefully one of TFP moderators will see this and can respond. Before I post my REQUEST, let me make a couple of things very clear. NO, I am not thin skinned, easily offended, a snowflake, a millennial, or whatever other negatives someone may try and come up with in regards to this. NO, I am not going to quit playing 7DTD if TFP choose not to accede to my request. We good? Ok. :smile-new:

However, I would like to make a suggestion that I think would be a class move on the part of TFP and that would be to eliminate the "Short Bus" name from the game. For one, it doesn't add anything and for another, it's really a very derogatory term for kids with a wide range of mental disabilities. (I am a parent of two special needs kids, myself - one autistic, one ADHD) It could just as easily be any number of things, but I think "Short Bus" (and yes, I know that compared to other buses in the game, those are, literally, shorter) is just out of place and isn't needed in the game setting.

Whatever you decide, thank you for reading this, and I hope that my request finds merit with you. Please keep up the good work on the game, and thank you for the ongoing options to let people specialize and play the game how they want instead of being forced into one specific route or another. :encouragement:

Eh, TFP has a sense of humor and it shows in various parts of the game. I hope they don't change it.

Someone else complained about the perk that was called Turrets Syndrome or whatever it is called. Stuff like that is just light humor. I like it and hope it stays.

I mean, I dont see how it is derogatory. There is POI that is a day care for special needs kids, but you dont find that offensive, correct?

Yes, there used to be a derogatory insult that people used about those types of buses. But that doesnt mean those buses didnt exist or that their existence was somehow the cause of such insensitivity.

They were called short buses because they are short, probably long before anyone thought of the insult. When you start pretending things don't exist for the purpose of avoiding offensiveness is when PCness goes too far imo.

Unfortunately, I still see the term used a lot in forums and such (along with ones like "window licker") to insult people. Be that as it may, I'll say again there's no desire for PC here; I happen to despise Political Correctness, myself. I felt it was tasteless and wanted to express my opinion. If they change it, they do. If they don't, it's not like I'm going to be awake nights over it or stop playing :smile-new:

Anyway, hopefully the responses will stay as decent as you have been, so far. Take care!

Right, I get that it can be used as an insult, but the existence of the vehicle has no relation to that. It would be like saying they should stop producing those types of busses irl because some people are jerks.

If you want to get TFP attention and affect a change in the stock game, this is the wrong forum: it's for discussions related to user-made modifications (aka. 'mods'). You should probably post in "General Discussion" or "Pimp Dreams".

That said, I think you'd actually be better off using mods to just alter your own gaming experience. My first thought was that you could edit Localization.txt to change the name of the bus, but it's already named "Short School Bus", not "Short Bus" (to me the two are very different).

I haven't seen the bus in game so IDK in what context you're seeing the name "Short Bus".
