PS PS5 – Distant POI / LOD not updating after destroying buildings (Ghost building at distance)

Platform: PlayStation 5

Description:
After completely destroying a POI on a mountain location in order to build my own base, the distant rendering does not update correctly.

When I am close to the location, the POI is fully removed and everything looks correct.

However, when I move far enough away (for example flying away with the gyrocopter) and look at the location from a distance, the original POI visually reappears.

When I approach again, it disappears and the correct (destroyed) version loads.

This creates a “ghost building” effect where my new base visually overlaps with the original POI at long distance.

The terrain was fully flattened and all original structures were removed.

The issue appears to be related to distant mesh / LOD not updating on console.

Reproduction Steps
  1. Select an existing POI (mountain location in my case).
  2. Completely destroy all buildings and flatten the terrain.
  3. Build a new structure in the same location.
  4. Move far enough away for distant LOD to activate (e.g. using gyrocopter).
  5. Observe that the original POI is still visible from distance.
  6. Move closer again, the ghost structure disappears.

The issue is consistently reproducible.

Hi, unfortunately for consoles that feature had to be cut. The feature you're looking for is dynamic mesh which handles that; consoles did not have enough CPU power and enough memory to handle it and there wasn't any way to optimize it in any meaningful way. I could be wrong, but it may render out further if you have a land claim block down there.

It's being looked into, of course; and another thing being talked about it the terrain changes. Currently, even with dynamic mesh, terrain doesn't get included in the updates. No promises, but that is (both) something we hope to have for consoles.

Thanks for the detailed report, though, that would have been perfect if it was something we needed to fix :)
