PC PS4 Connection Issues

I have noticed a reoccurring connection problem that happens when someone else in my household is downloading something or putting heavy strain on our wifi. I'll load up my single player world to the point of seeing the "building world" message appear along with hearing my forges running in the background only to get the error message that I have lost connection to psn. When I check my connection status in my playstation settings it says I'm connected. Is there any way to remedy this other than waiting for the wifi to be freed up and is there a possible fix coming down the pipeline for this?

Don't use Wifi.

Seriously, the Console doesn't support the protocols required to make Wifi good. You would need the ability to take advantage of AC and band steering. Technically, so will most of your other devices using Wifi, and your modem/router will as well.

Wifi can only handle so much bandwidth, and most ISP provided equipment doesn't have the overhead to handle a heavy traffic flow on top of that.

It's not technically an issue with the client. Yes the client does use more bandwidth than most other games, but not significantly enough that it's an issue. Well, it's not an issue if you aren't using airwaves.

I used to run into this when I worked the service desk all the time. Think of it this way.

10Mbps = Your base internet speed.

5Mbps = Your internet speed on Wifi. (Because of limitations in how the wireless traffic is managed.)

3Mbps = Your internet speed on Wifi after the data is being encrypted and encapsulated. (Common when using VPN or playing online games.)

So basically because you're using Wifi instead of a cable, you just killed your internet bandwidth by about 70%. Now you've got someone else streaming media on that same bandwidth, and it's going to get cut even further. Not to mention that most modems are designed to give that streaming media bandwidth priority.

TL;DR... It's not an issue with the game. It's an issue with using Wifi.

Here's an article on some things you can do to improve the Wifi signal.

Just be well aware going in that you can't make a Pinto run as well as the Corvette. You can improve the Pinto some, but it's not going to be significant. (And for those completely thrown off by the car reference, the Pinto is your Wifi, the Corvette is a wired connection.)

Make a speed test on a pc and look how much mb you are getting there. Just look on google

Make a speed test on a pc and look how much mb you are getting there. Just look on google. Or call your provider and ask him to check if everything is ok.

You can run a speed test on the console too. Just open the browser and go to speedtest.net.

A speed test won't tell you jack diddly about most of the things that can cause you issues with your connection though. It will only give you a max possible threshold.

People complain all the time about issues with connecting to a server, and will shout from the rooftops that they have 1000Mbps download with super digital fiber. They never even stop to think that there are at least 6 other pieces of hardware that can cause the problems, and only about a thousand possible software causes. That doesn't even include the data stream limitations from the other side.

TL;DR, Speed tests are crap. Don't use it as a reference for anything other than checking to see if your ISP is providing you with the basic rate you're being billed for.

Yea this. I had a similar problem on the ps3. After a while I disconnected from the psn, I called my provider and that solved the problem.
