Please, is there anyway to adjust specific sounds?

As the title says, some sounds: in particular upgrading blocks and salvaging (especially using the axe and hammer to upgrade and when heavy attack to salvage)

I just can’t stand how loud they are compared to the rest of the game play. Turning down the overall volume means I can’t hear anything and the game become unplayable as you then can’t hear any zombies. I really really love this game but it’s borderline unplayable because of the uneven sound effects.
While crouching can help to reduce the noise, you then cannot hear any zombies until they’re on top of you which is also not a solution - you also can’t always be crouching when upgrading blocks up high.

I would normally play with speakers as noise through headphones really affects my ears negatively, however when playing with friends or (more recently) when I have tried to stream my gameplay I need to use headphones to prevent echos.
Please, does anyone have a mod or something where I can use customer sliders to adjust sounds (ie. Like how Minecraft you can change a variety of sounds separately) and to the Fun Pimps who made this amazing game: please fix this or add a custom audio menu, currently this game is not accessible to anyone with sensory or auditory issues; people who just want to enjoy the game like everyone else.
 
I think the only way to adjust the volume of specific sounds would be to extract the resource files, adjust the level of that specific sound, and then repack it. But, most of that is above my level of knowledge.

What can be done for some sounds is mute them, or replace them with other less annoying sounds. One example - the sound for looting bird nests was really loud in the past, so I changed the open sound to some cloth sound. An easy change. Another - some of the eating/drinking sounds are really obnoxious so you can mute them by setting maxvoices="0" in sounds.xml. Another easy change.

Some things aren't so easy. I looked at upgrading/repairing blocks. The repair sound was an easy change, maxvoices="0" for repair_block would mute it. But nothing I did with the xml (blocks, sounds, items) would change the upgrade sounds, not muting and not replacing. The sounds are seemingly hardcoded or I'm missing something. Maybe someone that knows more will have some ideas.
