Picking Crops vs Picking Seedlings

I know that many times I'm picking my farm and accidently pick up a seedling as opposed to the grown plant beside it, could we punch to harvest and "E" to pick up a planted seedling? Just a thought.

Or... You know... Press E to harvest when the plants are ready like we used to. It worked just fine and I don't understand why they felt the need to change it.
