PC Performance

The performance of A17 is one of the worst if you do anything besides walking around.

[email protected], GTX1070, 32GB

I run the game in "medium" with high textures, otherwise the game looks like a 90's FPS.

There is a serious issue with lighting. Got decent vsynched 60 FPS (without A16->100-120FPS, A17 -> 60-80FPS)

Got a nice base going, lit the base with torches and with each torch the perfomance becomes a lot worse.

Night 21 when the herd arrived with a nicely lit base, performance drops to 15-20 FPS.

For my wife with her Ci5/960/8 it becomes unplayable.

I mean c'mon, look at my specs, running in medium 15-20FPS and have it look the way it looks?

Before adding new features and revamping the game design once again, refactor the core. Don't get me wrong, I am on board this train for a long time and loved most of the changes, and love how TFP are not scared to overthrow everything, but if a game that started 6 years ago runs worse now but looks like it's that age it's time to modernize.

Another issue seems to be with the cube marching algorithm. Each time you get somewhere where you drastically changed the density value of the worlds blocks, performance drops drastically before the changes pop into view, be it a hole, or a player base. So datastructure and parsing those need some updating as well I guess.

I think it's time to put all the money you earned to good use and hire someone who can optimize your code and data structure to run decently in Unity.

I'm getting 50-70 fps on highish settings@2560×1600 (at work so can't remember exact settings) even on busy hoard night.

BUT occasionally for no reason (no big zombie spawn etc) my fps drops down to 20 for about 60 seconds then reverts to normal.

This happens in random locations, doesn't seem to be when looking in a specific direction or at anything much.
