PC Powering Down In Mid-game!

Greets again!

Real fast, just wanted to thank the Horde for the help a few months ago for helping me find a new laptop for 7! 

Time has passed and I decided to bite the bullet and get a new desktop rig for 7 as well.  Had a guy custom build it for 7.  Got it home, installed A-19 Stable and started playing with family.  Five minutes in, the entire rig just...turns off!  No error, no crash.  Just turns itself off.  Tried several times, shutdowns were random, sometimes I could play for 15 min to almost an hour.  Temps are in the green.  (Liquid Cooled).  Played Detroit: BH before hand with no problem.  That's the only other game I've played so far.  I'm frustrated that the game I bought this rig for doesn't even play!  I need some assistance to get back in the fight!

Couple things.  

1. Liquid cooling isn't better than air. It's actually worse. Set your expectations appropriately.

2. Detroit: BH isn't a voxel game. It won't tax your hardware very much like this title will.

3. Check your Windows Event log. Could be a clue there. 

4. What Beelzybub said. Sounds like either an under-powered PSU, or something is at fault. Could be incorrect clock settings to. Since this is a custom build, there are a number of possibilities.

Will agree and disagree there, because when done properly liq cooling is better, but when not done properly it's way worse than air lol (hard to mess air up). But like others said, likely software (drivers) or something not installed properly. I just built a budget rig and have had no issues whatsoever.

 
Thanks for the input - the builder is going to upgrade the powsup and run some benches on 7 in his workshop...hopefully I'll get a REAL monster back!

AIOs are only equivalent or worse than air coolers no matter how well you install them. This has already been proven and agreed on by all youtube tech channels. Why anyone bothers with them is beyond my level of understanding, but to each their own I guess.

But I do agree that it's probably a power relating issue (not enough watts or dirty power).

Although, after seeing the dxdiag file, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if the AMD graphics card was the issue. Have they even fixed their driver / software stability issues yet? I haven't heard anymore news from that issue since the Youtube tech channels complained about them over a year ago. Since then, everyone basically stopped using them.

There's lots of evidence showing that liq cooling does better than air; but, that's for enthusiast "I really have no need to be doing this" overclocking situations. I'm not vouching or arguing for liq cooling because it's too much of a hassle and you can't just buy some 35$ "RGB ultra pro gaming super artic chill fortnite owning heat shreading AIO PRO420" AIO cooler, you gotta spend hundreds on it for it to be better than Air. But, you can't just say "it's never better than air"; and yes, a BADLY done watercooling is worse than air AND potentially harmful.

lol, well first off, I'm not going to bother reading anything from a biased website like Corsair who makes AIO coolers (especially after they screwed up badly with their most recent AIO coolers, clogging up). 2nd, your other link is a 4 year old video and we all know Jay is obsessed with liquid cooling and has very little experience with air coolers which makes him biased, and Jay has since retracted those assumptions after seeing Linus's video.

Although, I'm willing to admit being wrong after seeing Gamer's Nexus video showing that there are at least a few AIOs that are better than current air coolers... but I will also add that the cost of those AIOs don't make sense as they cost just as much as a custom loop cooler which is far better and usually nicer too and air coolers cost half as much for only slightly less cooling. There's also the factor that AIOs have a life expectancy as they dry out and have no refill port.

The video is literally him talking about how it depends on  whether you need or don't need liquid cooling and you, not "liquid is better", not sure how that's biased. I go by data anyway, and you won't see competitive OC'ing with air. And you know liquid cooling doesn't automatically mean AIO. Again, never was arguing for it because of x reasons why it's not worth it, just saying temps will be lower if done properly and you spend enough money on it.

You won't see competitive OCing with water either... ppl use nitrogen for that. And I never said custom loops weren't better than air, I just stated that AIOs weren't, or at least most of them weren't.

This is correct. As shown in the video, a Noctua or an Evo 212 will cool better than most AIO's out there, and they'll do it for about half the price. Water cooling is only going to be better with a larger custom setup that is extremely costly, often not any quieter, and really only viable for extreme overclocking.

 
Yeah I really wasn't ever talking about AIOs, just water cooling in general, since the term liquid cooling was used originally and not specifically AIOs lol

 
I am frightened of water cooling myself even the pre-built variety scares me. My last build in late 2019 I used Noctua NH-U12S with a pair of 120MM fans one for draw and one for push and my temps on a mild overclock never reached more than 70c in prime95 on a i7 9700k.

I also have 3 120mm front intakes, 1 120mm rear exhaust and 2 top 140mm exhaust, so I do have to clean the dust out in the PC regularly, which seems like the only benefit I can see for guys using water cooling, other than the hardcore PC builder that is, and I am not nearly one of those guys.

I want to thank everyone for their help and input!  We got it sussed out and replaced the powsup with something a little beefier!
