So after doing some digging like I do with video games, I have found that 7 Days To Die is using an obsoleted and abandoned project known as RakNet which runs on port 26902 for 7 Days To Die. RakNet is the network engine the game uses for multiplayer networking.
I am curious, are there plans to replace the network engine with a more current and modern engine or is RakNet to be considered permanent for 7 Days To Die?
For those of you who don't know what RakNet is, visit http://www.jenkinssoftware.com/ and http://github.com/facebookarchive/RakNet
As you can see, this network engine is very old and severely dated with many issues to date that are not fixed and still surface. Are financial barriers the reason this engine is being used?
It seems some independent Early Access game developers are using this engine to cut financial corners and it really doesn't make a lot of sense why such a obsolete and abandoned network engine is being chosen for the future longevity of this video game.
Can someone please answer my questions as thorough as possible and explain this to me? Thanks in advance for your time.
