Good evening, everyone,

I would like to open a discussion on the possibility of a reflection on the current organisation of the forum.

7d2d is an English-speaking game whose users clearly come from all over the world. We, non-English speakers must constantly make an effort to translate the discussions that emerged from this same forum. This is not a insurmountable difficulty, but an absolute and definitive iniquity. So I think that linguistic sections would be welcome in order to allow everyone to express themselves and therefore open the forum to all users. I know that for my part, English, which I can't speak because it's not my native language, has long been a barrier to my registration and I do not think I am the only one in this situation.

As a concrete example, I am thinking in particular of the Talewords forums, which are multilingual:

(no bannerlord ads, TFP and Talewords are two great studios with forefront games, just an example of the possibility of opening up to the world)

Je souhaite ouvrir une discussion sur la possibilité d'une réflexion relative à l'organisation actuelle du forum.

7d2d est un jeu anglophone mais dont les utilisateurs sont clairement issus de l'ensemble de la planète. Nous autres, non-anglophones, devons constamment faire l'effort de traduire les discussions issues de ce même forum. Ce n'est pas un mal loin de là, mais une iniquité absolue et définitive. Je pense donc que des sections linguistiques seraient bienvenues afin de permettre à tous de s'exprimer et donc, ouvrir le forum à tous les utilisateurs. Je sais que pour ma part, l'anglais -que je maitrise très mal- a été longtemps un frein à mon inscription et je ne pense pas être le seul dans ce cas de figure.

En guise d'exemple concret, je pense particulièrement aux forums de Talewords qui sont multilingues:

(aucune pub pour bannerlord, TFP et Talewords sont deux grands studios avec des jeux avant-gardistes, juste un exemple de la possibilité de l'ouverture au monde)

My girlfriend who loves 7d2d and is a professional translator would be very happy to do English-Spanish translation, which are her languages. One example, but opening up the community also opens up our possibilities.

And the same for moderators of course, because when we are playing toghether, english is the law for all the damn planet, and finally only 30% speak in their mother tongue. So, moderators is not a problem, they exist for all languages. Just let them speaks por favor.

It's an English speaking forum and the devs all speak English. Having multiple languages in the forums would make it messy and divide the community into even more sections making it harder to moderate and organise.

 
You could try making a subreddit for 7dtd in your language if you think there's enough demand for that and you're willing to do the admin/moderating chores.

Putting that burden on the devs seems unnecessary imho.

Moderating these forums, and the Steam ones, in (mainly) English is work enough, and as skullpoker has pointed out, you'd need moderators for each language proposed.

Moreover, which extra languages would you want to see opened? Whatever the list, it'll no doubt have some missing from it that others consider a grave oversight.

This is a cool idea, but just like others said, it most likely won't happen, at least not here on this forum. Maybe you could create a separate forum for non-english speakers hosted elsewhere and then you would simply inform users here that they can join that forum too, but they would have to be informed that it's an unofficial forum.

 
I recall bringing this idea up a couple of years ago, and this was one of the major issues we discussed.

One major obstacle would be the need to find moderators fluent in each language.

On top of that, it's like segregating the forum, and how do you decide which languages to support.

It turns into a very complex thing, and in the end it was decided to continue as we have been. The company is based in the US, and developed in English. As such we will likely maintain that.

I have seen other game forums where they support multiple languages, but those developers are primarily in Europe, and specifically catering to the audiences whose languages they support. A great majority of them aren't small companies still in their first Alpha test either.

TLDR; I don't see it happening anytime soon.

I'm not agree. Did you see the talewords forum, it works perfectly. i'm just talking about sub-section. Of course the main forum should stay in english.

I understand your point. But if TFP can find streamers all around the world, i guess we can find moderators in multiple languages for sub-sections.

You know, as I said previously, I am a fan of this idea, but I really don't see it happening on this official forum. Gathering people from all around the world to stream the game and gathering people from all around the world to moderate the forum are two different things. It's like saying that since you know that 1 + 1 = 2, you are ready to deal with this:

The global language is English and therefore the Developers have done enough for the basic communication between countries on this Forum.

I thought english is being taught all around the world as 2nd Language?

 
I can see the concern, especially from regions/countries where English is rarely taught widely even when it is available. These groups do have a lot of issues getting "official" information easily.

But it's really hard to get around, that if the game is in English, that while it might be localized for gameplay, having communication in multiple languages often just doesn't make sense. Google translate probably does a much better job than hiring (or appointing) another 50 moderators to cover another 10 languages, where you'll still have X number of languages still not covered and people still would be using google to translate.

While English by no means is the only "global" language, in reality and practical terms, it's a great one to learn yourself, and to make sure you teach your kids! :p
