PC No such thing as a "Sniper Rifle"

I wasn't even aware GJW(gun justice warriors) were a thing.

I also can't see a problem in a game with as generic guns as it gets.

What if they call it a Snipers Rifle? If it belonged to a sniper it would be correct, but could be any rifle they owned. Would then also include Snipers Shotgun, Snipers Pistol, Snipers Blunderbuss, and so on.

As much as I prefer precise language, sometimes it's more hindrance than help and I think this subject fits in the latter. Not everyone is going to be well versed in weapon models and while they might absorb that information through the game overtime, it's really more useful to say 'Sniper Rifle' so that people know this is their powerful long range choice versus a hunting rifle which, while using the same ammo doesn't come with zoom ;)

Stop hating on the french! they brought us snails! and er sacha distel and ummm pepe lepew! ok i didnt really think that through!

Who cares if its sniper or snipers? are we going to discuss how unrealistic they are in game next? or how heavy 200 small rocks are to run with ? cast iron armour and still running? and yes por vous pedantics, correct to your hearts desire. Now about that magnum...!

It doesn't really bug me too much in a game setting, they're named for people who don't know much abut guns. Sniper Rifle is a decent short easy descriptive term for what it does.

Assault Rifle on the other hand actually IS a real thing.

"Assault rifle

Written By: The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica

See Article History

Assault rifle, military firearm that is chambered for ammunition of reduced size or propellant charge and that has the capacity to switch between semiautomatic and fully automatic fire. Because they are light and portable yet still able to deliver a high volume of fire with reasonable accuracy at modern combat ranges of 1,000–1,600 feet (300–500 metres), assault rifles have replaced the high-powered bolt-action and semiautomatic rifles of the World War II era as the standard infantry weapon of modern armies."

The problem I have with that term is the way it is misused to describe rifles that do not fit the definition (like an AR15). The term refers to a select fire M4 accurately but not the semi auto AR15.

The issue comes into play in the real world when politicians grab these words to advance their political agenda by using more nefarious words to describe something in order to gain public sympathy (a la "Sniper Rifle" and incorrectly calling all black guns that look menacing "Assault Rifles").

I understand that it makes it easier for those who don't know much about guns to give them simple names, but if they are smart enough to figure out how to install and run a video game then they are smart enough to use correct verbage.

See, I knew it's about politics.
Sniper rifles and assault rifles exist. The assault rifle in 7dtd is even a proper assault rifle, because you don't have to pull the trigger for every shot. Now go back to /k/, politics aren't allowed 'round here.

The name of the game "7 Days to Die" is wrong as well. It should be "One Week to Expire". And Gazz.......I read magazines all the time and they don't work in guns. Sheesh! Where are you from? Antarctica?

Protip: Morloc's gun-knowledge is better than your gun knowledge.

I agree.

The engagement of both sides of the guns rights issue is annoying, and I find dancing around these things when talking about implementations in a video game as a failed attempt at interjecting some political correctness. In general, I believe very strongly the issue is just another tool for politicians to divide the population. It's sometimes amusing and tragic. For example, when the right's response to banning assault weapons comes up. The left seem to think they can shame anyone that wants to keep guns around because they are designed to kill, specifically a lot of people. It's amusing to me because it's not an argument that anyone disagrees with, yet it's repeated often and publicized well. Gun rights activists overwhelmingly agree with that sentiment, and it's precisely why they want to keep them. They don't have any plans to do any killing, and most would not enjoy having to do it. However when the SHTF, they view it as their right/nay their duty/ to kill anyone that gets in the way of defending the country from enemies foreign or domestic. It's a real insight into the left's mentality (or I would say in some cases naivete), that this is not treated seriously. Unfortunately, things change and people forget how we got here in the first place. It doesn't seem acceptable to many that GRA are just more willing to make substantial sacrifices (or suggest different solutions) to ensure we keep constitutional protections in place to guard against the big ones.
