My husband and me like playing together.

Most time we have internet but when my connection was dow for a day i saw that I can play alone but my husband cant connect because the Button fpr playing together was grayed out.

Please make an option for joining via LAN so friends can play together when at my home if theres no internet but lokal LAN.

You should not need internet to play VIA lan. Think about what it stands for Locoal.Area.Network its just one computer talking to another. That seems odd that the option was greyed out. Unless you need to be connected to the internet so that it can talk to the 7days servers. that'd be the onyl thing I could come up with.

That’s crap man. Devs should fix this or is it valves fault with needing to be online for steam or something?

But LAN parties without internet should be a thing. Bros gotta sit in the same room together during blood moon. And spouses to I guess. Lol.

I think if you set up a dedicated server just right, it might be doable as LAN only. I could be wrong though. It does happen on occasion.

I hope they fix this soon. We plan a LAN far away from civilzation with no internet or even cell phone reception. Next neighbour is 10min walking.

It's because connecting to the MP client/server requires authenticating via Steam. It's not a bug that needs to be fixed, it's a security feature. There are very few games made these days that allow offline LAN play because it opens up too many exploits in the global MP environment.

It's something I've learned to accept, but agree with you. I wish there was a LAN only option without Steam checks. We went to the coast and hauled our rigs to a little house during a spring storm that we were hoping to play on. I tried to temporarily use my phone as a hot spot to authenticate to Steam with the systems but was unable to successfully find a work around.

I can solo play without connecting to steam (new game or continue game) - but cant play together as "join game" is grayed out.

I cant see a security problem when joining via LAN would be accessable as in LAN only Friend and family is playing together. And when playing via Internet you must have an internet connection with "control" via steam...

I find it terrible that so much games only are funktioning with internet connection even if you are only playing alone or via Lan. I have no problem with one time internet connection the first time i install it to prove i and my teammates pay for their games - but in an offline game/LAN game i dont want must have an internet connection when starting the game we all payed for.

It's our punishment for giving them money.

There should be a mode where a lan server only accepts lan clients without requiring Steam auth. That stops the flood of cheaters from the Internet and allows us to play when we have no Internet connection. Other games do this, it would be nice if 7D2D would also. It's infuriating when you allocate time to play only to find you can't because your internet connection is dead.

+1 to this there has been many times where we can't connect to the dedicated server I have setup in my house because the internet isn't working and it's quite frustrating. If there was just a separate join option for LAN games that would be great. Or if no internet is available maybe only show LAN games in the join list. There should be ways to do this without risking the security of online MP games.

I agree. A lot more online only games, should offer a local co-op mode like this. Unfortunately, most of the titles I have on Steam require an internet connection for co-op mode, even if it's local thanks to the Steam Authentication requirement. It's really bad every Tuesday when Steam does the rolling server maintenance.

it honestly surprises me that steam hasn't come up with anything to solve this issue yet, this is the perfect game for something like a local co-op mode.

It’s their security measure that they use on purpose. They seek for ways to stop others from circumventing it. They don’t try to circumvent it themselves.

Allowing a mode where only local "lan" coop play works would simply allow for online play through a VPN.

I'm not understanding how that would allow abuse of local lan mode. Lan restrictions should only allow the client to connect to servers on the same network, ie: a.b.c.<something>. If there is a server out there running on the network that I connect to via VPN, then we are both a.b.c.<something> and connection is allowed.

I would have to run the server on a network and let people connect to my network via VPN. That is they only way to connect to a lan restricted server, and no one is going to give the entire world vpn access to their server. Am I missing or not understanding something (an admitted possibility)?

Hamachi is one of the primary reasons the current Steam ID authentication requirements exist. It was stupid easy VPN for spoofing local LAN connections. When you're playing with pirated software, it's one of the easiest ways to set up a server or play MP with friends who are also pirating the content. By forcing the server/client to authenticate with Steam, it breaks that particular segment.

Yeh I wasn't gonna detail it, but this^.

There are literally vpns advertised for specific pirated games.

I did not know that. Maybe I need to get out more often... :smile-new:
