PC Nifty anti-screamer defense

With workstations blazing all night, I've had quite a problem with screamers. Worse, they seem to be showing up in pairs nowadays.

My solution is to ring my base with electric fences. The screamers and their minions get stuck on the fence where I can dispatch them with whatever weapon is at hand.

I have also set up a second ring some distance (not far) on a timer. When wandering zed get stuck on that fence I had just snipe them from atop my base.

Very effective. Free XP. 😉

The combined hordebase/workshop allows me to bust a few skulls while flipping burgers. The electric fence just in front of the service desk helps to reduce damage on the base when I have to attend the workstations. My charater is spear/bow focused, only during hordenight I'm carrying an assault rifle that was in the loot a while ago for the occasional cop.

I just have a fence on the fighting position.  Often I have to turn the fence off to let the screamers scream first...

I also use an electric fence in my horde base. The zeds must pass in front of a robotic sledge and I've placed a fence just in front of the sledge. Very few get past it. The only problem is that it really limits the XP I get for horde night. I can turn the fence off when I want more engagement.

I am still doing a moat 1 deep and 3 wide filled with spikes. Never disappointed me in vanilla. And no they don´t scream if they can´t see you, it´s just that nowadays not all blocks do block their view even if they should.

I have all my forges/workstations/chem etc underground, then directly above it I build a concrete pyramid with spikes and 4 campfires on top of it,

Every few days I go and replace some spikes and refill the campfires.

I surrounded the base with turrets. Overall it solves the problems well, but the ammo consumption becomes too high.

What problem? Screamers are free XP while waiting for crafting and coocking to be ready. I don't see the point in turning this into grinding ammo for dear life. If fighting screamers is an issue then the already mentioned passive defenses with spike trenches are far more simple to maintain. Don't take this personal but in an other thread you stated using upgrading blocks for fast XP but to me that seems as adding grind as well so I'm surprised you choose turrets. Fighting screamer hoards with melee seems far more efficient to me: No grind for materials required, less maintenance and more XP.

Usually I build my workstation base underground with the ceiling a few blocks below the rock layer and put a field of spikes above it. They just kill themselves on the spikes. Go out and repair some once in awhile.

For me it depends on my mood. Sometimes I want to beat someone up, and sometimes I want to sit and look at things and calmly think about where to go next.
