Just wanted to offer some feedback. I started playing this game at the release of 1.0 and have never tried earlier versions. Although a new player I have logged 1482 hours in this game so far and this is my first post. Love this game.
In my opinion the 2.5 patch is a massive improvement. While never posting I have often read forum posts and criticisms of veteran players who have referenced older versions of the game and often thought "that sounds like it was really cool" when they were talking about previous ideas or versions of this game and some of the earlier ideas that were tried. I would also like to say thank you to the veteran players who have posted in detail the settings they have tried in game that make it fun for them - it was your feedback that got me to try changing default settings around a bit (I am a bit of a purist and I don't use mods) and in trying some of the suggestions found what is the most fun for me.
At any rate - I really like the changes in this patch (all of them) and wanted to say thank you. I hope to see the game keep going in this direction. First time playing with smell mechanics. They are great. Was trying to stealth with a friend and he er... let one go due to the ditchwater diet he was on and the fact that zombies started running at us because of it was hilarious.
Three small suggestions:
-Fortifying Grip - this mod eliminates all need for food (will hold you at 50% health and not let you starve) - I would make it so i doesn't prevent starving and just slow the process down instead of halting it. If 2.5 fixed this already (I feel like I lose HP faster while staving now - but haven't found this mod to see if it offsets yet) then disregard and thanks again.
-Water Purifier - I feel this mod essentially eliminates all hydration related challenges (once found one early on day 1 and thought it was the best find ever.. then realized it made the game less fun in the first few weeks as it trivialized staying hydrated). Would suggest it lowing the chances of dysentery instead making all water 100% safe (maybe 100% if paired with Iron gut)
-XP Settings - would be nice to have the option turn off XP from anything other than Zombie kills (odd request i know - i am weird and there are bigger things to worry about for sure)
The settings I find fun and exciting for me at least (as reference to the above suggestions). I like the early game.
All default (including jars..) except for
-25% loot
-120 minute days (30 minute bloodmoons)
-Permanent Death (keeps me from suiciding to conserve food or heal critical injuries as well as keeps it exciting)
-No Bloodmoon Warning (love the ominous thunder... think the red number warning is cheesy)
-Bloodmoon Every Day + 0-7 Random Days
-25% XP (this actually makes the game as lot easier they way game stage scales - not looking for easy really but I like the pacing a lot better this way)
-Difficulty "Nomad" or "Insane" - haven't settled on which feels the most fun for me yet. Nomad seems "fair" / Insane seems well... longer I guess
This is for 2 player Co-Op
