If some players like them, and some don't, that's not really a reason to remove them. If you don't like remnants, don't engage with them. Those who do can engage with them. Especially if you play with the POI labels/tier skulls on, you can just skate on by.It's rarely more than a couple enemies. That's a handout. It's fine for people who don't care about having even a slight challenge, but I'll stick to real POI.
Personally, I like them. You're right that they're not challenging or particularly lootable, but they rarely have more/better loot or harvestable stuff than the roads or the outside-accessible parts of most Tier 1 and 2 POIs where there are few or no enemies anyway, so I think categorizing them as a "handout" is a bit extreme.
To me they're set dressing and worldbuilding, which this game desperately needs more of. I personally don't want every POI to be questable and linear. I like that there are remnant POIs that are easy to clear but viable as base/outpost locations. Some of the new ones are also useful, like the community garden that has a dozen or more usable farm plots but is way too small and open to have been a Tier 1. I only found it after building a substantial farm of my own, but it's one I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for in future runs because it would be super useful early on.
Are they for experienced hardcore players? No, not really. Are they taking anything away from those players? Also no.
