PC New books from Madmole

I ate my beard last year when we missed our A17 ship date, I'm still full. At least I have a beard again.
There are only 2 types of people: Those with beard, and those without. lmao

Thanks for the info MM. I am now more excited for them than I was before. I am glad you are adding new unique things to them. This definitely gives the player incentive to go loot. Well done.

Now let's hope players don't start whining "but I need X magazine so I can get this shiny new mining skills and am on day 50 and can't find it". No you don't "need" it. please be sure to shut up such players so we can actually have nice things for a change =P

inb4 the RNG haters start coming out of the woodwork

All the cool people have beards. Sometimes I trim shorter, or longer, but I always have a beard now. #memberofyeardcrew (full year without shaving). I ultimately didn't like the look, but it was fun to try that.

So RNG "haters" should be shut up? Interesting.

Any feelings about skill tree haters in that regard?

No one should be shut up. IMO.

Cheers

RNG and RWG is what makes this game interesting.

Without RNG, you know you will always achieve X milestone by Y day, give or take. That's maybe fun for the first game play or two, but after that, meh. We need at least SOME interesting things from RNG.

What's the incentive otherwise to keep looting once the only thing left to get is ammo? That's not interesting anymore at that point. So again - props MM, hope this is as good as it sounds :)

in reply to skill trees - I am not going to derail this thread. Read my other posts. long story short though is I have ideas for skill trees that will make all parties happy including myself, AND the people who like the current system. my intent is not to maliciously screw over people who have different playstyles than me, but my intent IS to avoid having people who have different playstyles than me screwing ME over. if that makes sense?

Allright, perhaps I could have worded it a little differently, I admit.

That said, we are already basically told to shut up, in not so direct language, so I already know what it's like. There is a LOT of backlash against the A17 perks and up until now most of the time we have been told "It's better, get over it". If that's not shutting up I am not sure what is.

Anyway, avoiding thread derail. Post in the other thread if you wish to discuss further.

I always heard it differently: Men with beards, and women and children without.

Like a man without a beard is a child lol.

Yeah Yeards are overrated and pretty much no matter what you will look like a hillbilly. The thing is, without trimming it will get wispy and thin and look weak. Like I think I used to stroke my beard all the time and it turned into a thin neck beard. Last May I shaved for the first time in years, hated what I saw, but when it grew back it was full and thick and looked awesome again. Now I never touch it except when grooming and it has stayed full looking and healthy.
Length doesn't matter, rock what you want. I change it up and go from big beast beard to a fairly short beard. Its fun to mess with it and if I don't like it it grows back fast. I trimmed it 3 weeks ago and thought it was too short, its huge again already. The main thing is to keep it trimmed so its not scraggly.

The numbers will need testing but the idea is that one book isn't going to make you OP or be game breaking. The bonus perk for having read the whole set will be realy good as you can see, an extra 50% damage to someone sleeping plus the already high sneak damage would probably be one shotting sleepers if shot in the head even with a pistol as long as you have some perks too.
Currently I have well over 100 books now, and there are some really cool ones that aim to fulfill certain play styles. Even new crafts like ghillie suits, c4 that does mass damage to doors and safes but not other block types, books to help raiding, each weapon archtype has a full suite of perks, like craft bulk ammo, successive shots cripple, dismember perks etc. There is even a perk that has a 20% chance to one shot ores. So even if you suck at mining and have a stone axe you will probably plow through boulders like a pro.
Will these books be available in 17.2?

@Madmole. I was wondering if you could throw your name on a few of those books. I feel like i'm not seeing it enough in game yet ;)

Are these well over 100 books designed in a spreadsheet (basically envisioned) or are they actually coded?

I like the idea of those books, though some would say it feels a bit "Fallout-ish" if implemented. I just want more things to loot whether it be new sets of books or other unique stuff.

The books sounds nice, and if their effect stack, IMO they will be nerfed

into oblivion like other nice things.

Stack with what? Do they stack with perks? They should or they would be useless except in the first few days when you don't have any of them. Also their effects are too weak to be non-stackable with perks.

Do they stack with each other? Sure, knives do 5% more damage and bows do 5% more damage stack beautifully, for example.

With 100 books around and people looking for sets you will have to raid a lot of book stores to get even half the sets completed (if they keep the frequency of book finds similar to magazine finds now. A completionists dream and nightmare in one package I assume. :smile-new:

EDIT: Completely forgot about stacking with itself, thanks Roland for the clue bat.

The book effects stack with other effects but reading the same book twice will not stack with each other. You won’t be able to get Knives to +50% by reading 10 duplicates.

Book sets are a nice little addition to add a small extra exploration incentive. Not too excited about the nature of the example bonuses though.

:( Thanks for the answer anyway. I suppose those books might be a nice little addition, and

added to give incentive for exploration.

Where is info on this?
You quoted it. :)

There hasn't been a lot revealed yet. Only a couple of collections as examples. They will not be like the magazines we have now with only a temporary effect. When you read one of the perk books it will permanently give you the benefit whether that be a % increase in some ability or a recipe unlocked (like the C4 recipe Madmole teased). The benefits of the books will work in conjunction with other benefits which is what I meant by they stack. They stack with other benefit sources. However, they do not stack with themselves which means that reading duplicates of the same exact book will do nothing for you.

This is all the info that has been revealed so far that I am aware of.
