PC My Thoughts After Playing Alpha 17. Yes I said Alpha 17!

Whenever this game goes live there should be an "old school" setting, half of the game removed with lots of zombies GPS'ing on you. I am sure there will be mods, but it would be even better if this was official.

I remember when I first started playing the game in A13.8, I found that junkyard. The sloped metal roof of that big garage was still collapsing in A13.8, but they had the broken/sprained leg working in the game. Climbed up there to get spend the night in safety...fell through the damn roof. Landed on metal trussing, which then collapsed, dropping me into the waiting arms and teeth of several zombies.

Their dinner was great.

climbing up the ladder in on of the survivor trading post type things... zombies beeline and chop out the bottom of the ladder.

It collapses. I'm at the top.

I think it is a right of passage for all Minecraft players to the game. They think : I'll just nerd-pole up to be safe from these pesky zombies. Then they stare in wonder as the Z's start destroying blocks, then in fear as the structure starts collapsing with them on top.

On saying that, I believe the large office block buildings can't be brought down, even if the whole first two layers are removed, right? It just levitates. There is relative safety in hanging on a platform from the roof in the main lobby, with a jump entrance. At least until cops arrive, they can spit at you. Does A17 address this, I wonder? Not that I think it needs "fixing", myself, it's very low on the list anyway.

The new stealth bar thing. The eye in the middle of the screen and the text message about being hunted/ sensed/ undetected is gone.
How are we supposed to not miss as much with the corssbow if the stealth eye is gone? That marginally helped with aiming!

Yeah...but such things (though they bring us happiness) must eventually end.

Finally, I tried digging down near some zombies but they didn't dig to get me. I'm not sure which zombies are set for digging or if it is just dogs. I'll have to get some clarification and then try again but I ran out of time.
i think all zombie can dig

fataal wrote that they crouch before start digging and dog cant crouch

Ya, I read that too. I’ll try again and skip to blood moon so they will be sure to detect me.

Excellent update Roland - the better, more intelligent pathing sounds like a real winner - it's a MAJOR boost for playability to see (hopefully) no more spinning zombies! Good read.

Last night I did a quick test of the old exploit of nerdpoling up five and then over five using frame blocks and....it still works. Seems they were confused by zero pathways possible and didn’t have any task programmed into them to go hit the one stilt keeping me perched since it was offset from my position. They just stood below me. I recorded it and sent it to faatal and he said not to worry. He has that covered but just hasn’t added the “can’t reach player so go destroy nearby blocks” code yet. :)

Maybe we have been looking at this the wrong way? Why not have frame blocks act like ladders too? that way the zombies would just climb up the frame nerd poles and get you that way? It would also make construction for huge projects much easier because you can use the wood frames as a sort of scaffolding that you can climb up and down, like the industrial craft scaffold blocks?

Thank you for the A17 testing experience, looks like more bugs still to squash.

I was wondering are you guys going to release an unstable beta prior to A17s release, to maybe get more bug feedback ? Or are you going to stick with internal testing ?
