i own the steam version and the old version on xbox but needed to buy a license for v1.0 on xbox in order to play with my friends. problem lies in their being a V1.0 console version and a V1.0 xbox pc version. did not know this before buying it and bought the wrong one to find out the license does not transfer to download on pc or xbox. and the 2 versions are not crossplay compatible. not sure if this is a error or not. would be nice if this was fixed or at least be more clear so people dont accidentally purchase the wrong version. in my case luckily i found this out within a few minutes of downloading so i could get a refund and buy the correct version.

Last I looked, the console version says console version in the name and the system specs list the console. For PC, it will list PC specs. Not sure if that's changed. Crossplay will be available around the end of the year.
most games say that but usually its a license for both through the xbox app/ microsoft store. and might be different if xbox cross-platform wasnt listed until it was available. might need to remove those till the feature is available. tried to insert a screenshot but not sure how but it lists "Xbox cross-platform multiplayer" and "Xbox cross-platform co-op". this sounds like this version allows play with xbox users which is why i bought it first. its just a bit confusing

Makes sense. And maybe the versions will allow play on both PC and console after crossplay is available. I don't know what the plan is there.
possibly. but just sounds like you can currently play between xbox versions but you cant yet. or at least i couldnt. makes sense that no cross play means xbox, playstation, and steam cant play until its enabled. they should probably remove that wording until it is. other people might not be as lucky as i was and be able to get a refund to buy the correct version. ive played for many years but i can see this deterring newcomers to the game.

It would be nice to have it set as an "xbox anywhere" game like the previous console version. Not only that but I was able to play the PC/Steam version via the xbox PC version before the console release. Considering I had the same version of the game I feel it should at least let me download the Xbox PC version still, It even shows my achievements still but not considered as owned.

There's one for Windows PC in the Microsoft Store as well, which is the same version as the one on Steam I believe. And then there's the new 1.0 Console Edition which is a port of the latest PC version but with some minor differences due to Console hardware, but cross-play and RWG will come in a later update they said. With that said, there's also the old legacy Console version from Alpha 15 as well, it still shows up on digital stores so people who own the game can still play it, but that one has been delisted and can no longer be purchased on the PlayStation and Microsoft stores.
