PC Multiplayer question (NEW PLAYER)

Hi guys, i have played this game quite a while and i liked it, but i never bought it because i don't know if many people play multiplayer and how do you play multiplayer. So i wanted to buy the game and play with other people, are there a lot of people playing and how does it work ? You create a server or join someone's server or how does it work ?

 
Can I ask how it is you have played the game for quite a while and have never bought it? Was about to comment on servers but was curious about that.

 
Yes, there is a large server list and many vanilla or modded servers to choose from. You can create or join any public server you like (for private ones you need to get a key).

He was obviously visiting a friend's apartment who owned the game and played there often, duh.

Have had this exact thing happen not but a few months ago. He played it on my PS4 and liked it a lot. Let him at the PC version a bit, and pretty soon he's got it himself.

When choosing a server, I strongly recommend that you sort by ping, and choose a low number. Choosing a server based purely on name/description could put you in a situation where you have a high ping and disconnect or lose sync with the server a lot.

 
Ok and can i create server or there are already created servers from the devs, also can i play with a friend who plays this game on PS4 but i will play it on my PC.

You most certainly can't play with a console player - their version is far behind compared to the PC version for one afaik.

There are many servers in the list already created by other players in which you can join anytime, or you can create one yourself if you want, with your own rules, so that others can join.

Hoping you were being funny as it was a legitimate question. Playing on a friends machine for 4 years and uploading videos would seem it did take a while to finally decide he liked the game enough to get it. I would hate not being able to play this when I wanted.

The answer doesn't really matter though, since he eventually got to that point.
