PC Mining in A17 - Quick question.

Hola. Trying to find information on how mining works in a17. Have found everything but potassium nitrate and the old gravel method doesn't seem to work anymore? you use to be able to sample up top and find what you're looking for, this doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Anyone tell me what's up?

 
Same as in A16, nothing about ores in biomes changed. Info of what is where is in the in game journal mining section.

I haven't seen any surface outcroppings of iron or anything else for that matter like in A16.
