PC Mining for Gold & Silver?

Madmole mentioned you could mine for gold & silver to make money for the trader. I thought gold & silver were just random drops. Where can you mine for it exactly?

 
As far as I know they were as you said, random drops that just add a little bonus , though since the game keeps getting reset, and with my vastly busy Christmas schedule I haven't had the time to progress to late game mining.

 
When a17 experimental first released I was mining and found a single spot that when I mined it gave me random gold and silver nuggets. Not sure what causes them to spawn but yes they are there :)

 
You can find ore veins that are surrounded by sand, i am unclear how to find them exactly, i usually dig holes til bedrock at the old caves or under the big stone boulders outside.. within these veins there is a chance to find a 7500 durability sphere that seems to give no loot. at half health and upon breaking them they give silver/gold.

 
Sounds like it's not anything you can actively seek out from what people are saying. I've been playing this game for a long time and never found ore mining lol. Bad luck I guess.

 
I was able to find one while making my own little mine shafts in a desert biome. Yes it was a ways down almost at bedrock..maybe like 5 blocks above bedrock. I didn't get much silver though like 4 or 6 pieces max. Motherload might have helped but that perk feels useless till late game for me.

 
from what ive seen in a16 gold silver and diamonds are quite rare and prob still are in 20k blocks mined in desert i got a total of 1 of each lol

 
Doesn't really matter where they are located underground.

You can play game after game and never come across a vein of rare ores.

Really the only reliable source is from treasure chests.

That's what I thought pretty much. Looking for ore to sell is not really a valid option when you need some dukes.

I had a single silver block at the mouth of one cave (with the workbench out front) but that was a few builds ago. Only other time I've come across rare veins is when my wife was mining oil shale in the desert in A16

 
Who's PM system are you using there, LuckStar? ;)

Most of the rare minerals I've found have been while mining Oil Shale in the desert biome.

 
I have found the occasional silver/gold vein (typically only a couple blocks in size) while mining for oil shale in the sandy biomes. I got really lucky with one of my A16 playthroughs and got a vein that netted me over 100 gold and ~60 silver. No more machete blade-selling in that one!
