Does someone have a good building random world map tutorial that is updated? All the information is way out of date. I know it's been the same for a few versions now, but I would love some sliders for some of the map options.

Towns/cities are tough. If you have the option few, then there aren't many and they are small. The normal option for towns really seems like "many" as there are an overabundance of towns, even if you turn mountains up. I would love an option that is in-between these two options. I want the harder biomes to have a large map and there be just one or two in the starting pine forest biome. There will probably be an updated mod soon yes, but this seems like a simple request?

What other map options do you think I need to change to try to achieve this? Thanks so much. I just updated to 3.0, been playing for years...would just like some more map customization.

harder biomes to have a larger town I meant, sorry for the typo.
The higher biomes are supposed to have larger towns by default, regardless of settings. The largest town size is only available in the wasteland and the forest is very limited in town size. Terrain can of course impact what size towns will fit in the biomes.

I always use diegar´s bigger cities mod. It´s not updated since V1 but still works. Gives you way bigger cities also in the forest (depending on mapsize ofc)

Also too many hills and mountains will result in way less cities as they need flat ground. If you want cities to dominate the map you need to reduce the hills and mountains a lot.

Not necessarily true. I left mountains and hills the same and also used Many for cracks and rivers and lakes and still had a LOT of towns on my 8k RWG map. But it does impact it... you just might still have a lot of them without reducing those at all.

As far as modding them, you don't even really need a mod someone else wrote. The town sizes are very easy to understand and change yourself in the rwgmixer.xml file. You can adjust them to whatever you want very easily. As long as you don't download a game update or verify your files, your changes will remain. If you update or verify your files, you'll need to redo those changes if you are editing the original file rather than making your own mod, which is also very easy to do and there are instructions in the mods forum explaining the format needed. But yes, if you like how a mod has it set up, a mod is very easy.

Thanks for your help! I asked AI a lot of questions and got some of the xml file changed!

You can also ask questions about modding stuff like that in the Modding forum here. Or even just ask follow-up questions here and someone will likely answer them. :)

But if you got some usable answers from AI, there isn't anything wrong with that either.

If the Higher tier Biomes are supposed to have the larger poi clusters.
Have any people tried, max gen wasteland, then painting in the biomes
manually around the poi clusters, to get larger in the other biomes also?

You can do that if you want. Just make sure you paint the biomes before starting a save. Changing biomes in the middle of a save causes issues. But remember that changing the biomes from what RWG made can mean your traders aren't in their "official" biomes. I prefer that, but not everyone will.

You are right, in the case you posted. It depends on each person,

True, and that is how I have made my custom environments for years. Examples,
I have left the original biome under the poi locations, so traders could follow standard progression,
including quests, while changing everything around it, basically i consider that the oasis build. Still create
varied elevations for the different biomes and paint according to elevation, for non-standard progression.

Created my own template for blending biome to biome visual flow to make it gradual instead of
hard border. It isn't for everyone. The irony though is that a person will, invest hours days or weeks in
building and customizing a single POI, vs a half hour to customize an entire environment.

This is what I was responding to. It was to see if @rebeldj1 had any interest in taking it farther,
and just how deep they wanted to go.

I would be willing to update or write a tutorial or a cursory bullet point addendum, for what I
have learned. But only if there was an interest in it. The two programs I use are Krita which is free,
and an old version of photoshop. But this question actually sparked my interest to look for free apps
that can view edit raw files. Now I want to test them too, in order to see the options. Environmental
customization has been my main focus from the beginning, that includes, spawning, groups, ai responses,
to make it more seamless and interactive for me.
