Make shovels faster or more efficient

Currently once you can one shot stone with a pickaxe you can also one shot dirt with grave digger mod which means shovels become irrelevant since pickaxes have 5 more attack speed than shovels and it doesn't make sense to be able to tunnel through stone with a pickaxe faster than a shovel through dirt. so i suggest you make shovels have 60 attack speed instead of 50 so they can dig faster than picks. Alternatively make them have less stamina cost so they become a good option for people not wanting to spec much into strength or mining since eventually or with miner clothes your stamina drains so slowly it doesn’t matter, but augers kind of invalidate that so i hope you go for attack speed. if its needed just reduce entity damage so they don't become too good of a melee weapon.
 
I could be wrong, but digging in clay with a pickaxe, while faster, does not yield the same amount as a shovel.

That being said, I completely agree that something should be done to make shovels more attractive. Given the right perks and mods, players can one-shot soil with a high tier iron shovel, making the steel shovel useless (while costing more stamina usage to boot). It's just not worth upgrading. I've suggested in the past the steel shovels (and honestly steel anything) should not cost more stamina, but less. They could also have a AOE applied on power "attacks" so that more blocks are affected with each swing.
 
It is kinda weird that better tools require more stamina than not.... I don't think a rock at the end of a branch tied together with plant stems would reduce my work effort compared to a ergonomic tool designed for the job.

I never factored clay yield because there’s basically infinite dirt. It’s not like ore veins. So you can just mine more which is trivial once you can one shot dirt with a pick. And since it’s faster it’s better for construction or tunneling. Especially when you factor in now you only need one tool to mine stone, ore and dirt and never need to switch up. I really like the power attack hitting multiple blocks idea. Especially if it does so vertical so you can dig tunnels faster. Otherwise they could implement halving attack speed if you hit the wrong block for your tool. I mean think about it. If you hit wood or dirt with a pickaxe irl it can get stuck so then you got to pry it out. Lots of good ideas here.

Are there mods that increase attack speed pickaxes can’t use? So if they want to make a mod that works for shovels but not picks that increases attack speed, Sure. But unless the pickaxe is excluded it will also benefit from attack speed increases and just be even better on dirt than shovels.

better tools take more stamina, cause they do significantly more damage or harvest resources much faster per swing. So, the stamina cost offsets this efficiency, which in turn balances the game so players can't easily spam high-tier attacks.

Dunno yet, haven't used or found the new mods yet. But, you can increase or decrease how much stamina you use in the game in the sandbox options.

My issue isn’t stamina usage as changing that would also make pickaxes better and once you’ve got lots of strength perks and mining set you basically have infinite stamina. My issue is pickaxe does everything shovel can but better since while a shovel might earn more clay the fact you need to spend steel or forged iron to make a tool dedicated to digging and take up space in your inventory and equip it with mods when you can instead just make a single pickaxe and put grave digger on it offsets any benefits shovel has. I was simply suggesting if the fun pimps don’t want to make shovels faster they could instead make it viable for builds that don’t want to invest in strength or miner skills by making it efficient if not faster, but as I said in my original post the auger basically does that already. Besides it doesn’t make sense to be faster tunneling through stone than dirt in any scenario so even if we made it so the pickaxe couldn’t use grave digger you’d still be faster making tunnels just 2 blocks deeper into stone instead of dirt.
