Make a base feel like home “additions”.

While some players focus purely on function of their base, there are those of us that like decorating and turning our bases into “homes”. A way to escape the apocalypse in a sanctuary of our own making.

This suggestion is for additions that I feel would make excellent additions to the base game (after all, we console players are only able to access what is on the core game).

Mechanics:

- when within a the area of a land claim block, and NOT being attacked, the volume of weather effects and other noises is reduced. The reason for this is many players can’t stand building in the burned lands and wasteland because of the atmosphere. It’s meant to be dark and kinda depressing, but that doesn’t mean players shouldn’t be able to build a base that makes it more tolerable.

- Be able to make some kind of block, or even a “mod” for the land claim block that turns the area into a pocket of pine forest region (and other zones) So players can make an oasis for themselves.

- Working on some ideas with my buddies for a “plumbing system” suggestion, so that may be posted in future.

Structures:

- a Double wide spiral staircase piece, we definitely like the idea of spiral staircase, but because it’s so small, it’s hard to get up and down in it’s current option.

- More pieces similar to the Ballustrade, where it’s a more complex object, and can be used for a ton of different parts (I use it as a major design piece for everything from fancy side tables, to post bases, and am even working on a fancy base look that relies on them.

- More paints. There is a decent selection to choose from, but we could always do with more color! Personal favorites that I would like to see more similar include things like concrete trim, yellow wallpaper (which on the right blocks kind of looks like gold trim), and reinforced wood (which again looks phenomenal on certain blocks, even railings surprisingly!) Perhaps different types of metals? Like oxidized copper, brass, Damascus steel, etc?

Sound System/ Record Player:

I’d love to see this hit numerous different elements. At the core being that you can collect various “records” which you can consume like you would a skill book. This would unlock various types of music within the game. Doesn’t even need lyrics or anything, house music, rock, R&B, reggae, jazz, etc. (spawn locations according to various types of POI).

With this acquired music knowledge, players can build record players, or sound system blocks (with electricity, and connect extra speakers to it, giving speakers more purpose than just alarms).

These suggestions aren’t necessities, but would definitely add to the game in a positive way.

That music suggestion is awesome! Wow. See that what I'm talking about! Keep this up and we will be a free unpaid think tank for TFPs

The two things there that I would love to see and have commented on when suggested before are more blocks and more paints.

Regarding those, there are some things to now about them.  The max number of different block shakes in the game is limited, though they did just double that, so it isn't so bad.  For vanilla/console, that isn't going to be a problem, but for mods, it was a problem because it was too easy to hit that cap.  With the increased cap, it allows a lot more options.  So they should be able to add more to the game while still supporting mods.  What they have said is that if there are specific blocks you think need to be added, you should suggest those specific blocks.  Without giving specifics, they aren't likely to add them.

For paints, they have said there is a limit to how many they can have sure to memory constraints based on how they implement them. I've never agreed with their reason as I believe it can be improved, but I'm not developing the game.  It might be something that really can't be changed or might be a restriction due to making console and PC the same and console having less memory than a PC is capable of.  I don't know.  In either case, we are limited.  But they did remove a bunch for 1.0, so there is definitely room to add more.  I've even just recently seen a mod that added over 200 paint variations.  I haven't tried it yet, but it is on my list for my next save.  The author said they are also limited in the number they can add.

Just some info about those particular suggestions.

They did take away the ability to terraform other biomes so probably won’t bring it back. While the mechanics section could be neat I probably wouldn’t use, like to build influenced by biome, not against it unless it stands in the way of things I do like which would be the structures section. People are always asking for more building/texture options so hopefully they can make some of that happen in the future.

At least being able to make the inside of an enclosed structure feel more home like,  rather than it keeping the dreadful coloration and sound effects of wasteland or burned zone, if not the “terraforming” aspect.

The music part of suggestion would really help with part of that I feel like.

Always a fan of good music and sound design in games. Personally I like the sounds of the different biomes. However I did like the gathering of tapes in Metal Gear Solid V: TPP and records in the FF VII remake so would be fine if they added it. Don’t know if it fits this game but not saying it couldn’t.

Sounds a lot like the "weather station" of Fallout 76, which I personally feel detracts from the experience of other players. Nothing like appreciating the unique (i.e., uniquely Fallout-y) atmosphere of the Ash Heap only to go through a little section wherein it's snowing snow instead of ash because a C.A.M.P. builder has decided to change that unique atmosphere to her own liking within their C.A.M.P. radius. Not that Bethesda itself cares much for preserving the aesthetic and atmosphere of the game's biomes having plunked NWOT smack dab in the middle of the Ash Heap, absolutely ruining the biome's aesthetic and atmosphere, afic.

I don't know about this one.  Mods are better for such purposes as they do not impact the experience of other players unless the mod is server side.

And paints. That also smacks of the C.A.M.P. building "feature" of Fallout 76. Though I think the base game could do with more (and, in some cases, better) paints, the trouble with such "features," as I see it, is that studios/publishers now have a history of gouging players for sets and decoration pieces in in-game shops the very same as they do with "skins" and models. If it wasn't a planned feature for the base game, I can't imagine TFP resisting the temptation of doing the same.

There's already talk of events and "seasons" among influencers who obviously don't see a problem with said player gouging. Personally, I've supported the game thus far because it's not a MMO and TFP haven't involved themselves in the more sordid industry practices/standards to date, instead producing a product and selling the product in an "old school," above board kind of way. I'd seriously consider refining the game's "C.A.M.P. building" feature a bit were I them, but would caution against building another game within the game when mod support has them covered on the individual customization front.

It is possible that they add more cosmetics without micro transactions, idk maybe people have forgotten that is an option.

As far adding customization, TONS of games have made that an option over the years, FO76 just happens to be a big name one in recent years. By no means does it set an industry standard.

By increasing base content in the game like this, it will help them sell the game more, it’s that simple. You’d be amazed how many people play games like this just to build their own personal paradises.

At what cost? It's that simple. If it was not accounted for in the planning stages, it will send the game overbudget as TFP have business overhead to consider. Employees must be paid for the time it would take to create the models and assets, for example. Many studios and publishers are actually using that as an excuse to gouge players and many players are arguing that we must "support the developers" by purchasing microtransactions.

Not even going there myself.

In terms of “cosmetics” there are a few things they could “add” without really costing them. Things that already exist in the game (like various textures) that are not currently options for the paintbrush for starters.

They could include assets for players that already exist in the game if it is technically feasible, 'tis true. There is discussion about numerical technical feasibility earlier in the thread. Of course, Bethesda could have made available assets in 76's C.A.M.P. building system that were included at no extra charge in player choices for the settlement system of Fallout 4, e.g. the junk fence pieces, but didn't. Instead they chose to sell FO4 base game assets in the exploitative "Atomic Shop." I raise a caution flag. Nothing more.

Also though, Bethesda is run by a bunch of corporate stooges that have no pride in the game itself, only money. Which is why if you look at their older games vs new ones, you see a clear difference in which ones were made in which way.

I point out that “Skyrim” is still one of the most iconic games in the last 2 decades. Where players didn’t MIND getting DLCs, because it added to the game in a meaningful way.

How does that relate back to this?

TFP at least from what I’ve seen still are a smaller studio, and they definitely have pride in their game. While they definitely need to make money on the game and DLCs, I HOPE that their focus is more on making the game better with the addition of DLCs, rather than just something for profit.

After all, I still hear about Skyrim being played and even the younger generation buying it for the first time. So because it was so well done and became iconic, the profit kept coming even in the long run!
