Windows lost worlds

Hello, I upgraded my computer and changed my motherboard, which resulted in me installing a new Windows installation. Windows was installed on an SSD, but all the game data was on the hard drive, which I hadn't cleaned up in any way, so all the data remained there. So, I downloaded the game back to the hard drive, opened it, and couldn't access the worlds I had. They weren't even in the game (the "Continue Game" button was grayed out). Now my question is, is there any way to restore my worlds? I've made a lot of progress, it's a shame to lose them.

Ok first, When you say game data, do you mean the 7daystodie folder with the exe and other
folders, or are you talking about the worlds/data folders under the 7daystodie under your user
profile?

If you saved a copy of the 7daystodie folder from your user profile, then you can copy all of the
subfolders back to the 7daystodie. There are two main folders necessary, the first is generatedworlds if you
were playing in a random gen world, the second is the saves which is your progress.

When you installed windows, it created a new user logon or profile, by default there should be
Users/Your user name/appdata/roaming/7daystodie this is where you would copy the GeneratedWorlds
and Saves folders for them to be recognized by the game.

From you description the Generatedworlds folder may be there but the Saves or player progression folder
may not be there to match, causing it to be grayed out.

I mean the worlds/data folders in the 7daystodie folder in the user profile. I didn't save a copy of the 7daystodie folder in my profile. The GeneratedWorlds folder is there, but it's empty. This is a new folder for the SSD, and there are no saves folders.

Your saves and worlds are located in AppData, which is on the same drive as Windows (unless you changed that location). That is located in your Windows profile, so if you installed a new copy of Windows, you'd need to make sure you made a copy of those folders and then placed them in the same location in your new Windows profile's AppData folder.

Then that means, they may have been over written. I know this would be after the fact but
the best thing to do in future. Is get an archiver like winrar, archive you game profiles to
alt location, as a back up.

I would look on the Hard drive to see if you see a saves folder, and a generated worlds folder
with sub folders and files. If they are there open a second window to the side, copy and paste
the entire contents under Users/Your user name/appdata/roaming/7daystodie. Because the new install
of the OS will follow default config until customized.

Unless you have a custom configuration in steam for where it should look for saves. As long as you have
those folders with data in them you just need to copy an paste to where it is pointing in steam, If one or
both are empty, then the sectors would have been over written or formatted or deleted from the new
installation.

Was the original OS on the same SSD, or originally on the hard drive?
If it was on the SSD it may have been deleted. If on the other hard drive, then go to your profile folder on the hard drive
and copy the saves etc. to the ssd profile for 7 days to die that you are using now.

Riamus, 4sheets: He specifically said that he installed the new windows on a new SSD and did not change anything on the hard disk. So there is no need for a backup, the old saves can't have been overwritten.

Skip: The old saves and generated worlds should still be on the hard disk, ready to be copied over.

Actually, they said that Windows was on SSD, not that it was a new SSD. And the "data" was on the hard drive (HDD). However, that may mean the game was installed on the HDD but not that the HDD had Windows, and therefore the saves and worlds. That's why I said what I did. But it may be a new drive, in which case, the saves and worlds just need to be moved.

Ah, you are correct. I misunderstood his post

That is why I wrote so much, at least this time. The word data was general to me.
Initially the explanation of the configuration was a bit confusing.

So I thought the best thing for me to do was to give, the info and options to not
only help now but in the future.
