Loss of skills, inventory and belt.

Version
V 2.0
Platform
Windows
Bonjour,

Good morning,

I encountered a serious problem last night due to a power outage.

Game mode: single player

Mods: None

I recorded the session (video available on my YouTube channel).

After restarting the game, I was forced to redo the day 1 tutorial, even though I was already on day 4. My save seems to have been partially reset.

Here's what I lost:
- All player skills (skill tree completely reset)
- Inventory (completely empty backpack)
- Hotbar (missing belt items)
- Quest progress (reset to day 1 tutorial)

This happened on version **V2.0 (b285)** on **Windows**.

I would like to know if this is an unintentional bug or a known issue with this version.

Thank you for your time.
This is a long time issue with the game crashing while saving. A power outage can easily corrupt your save. When that happens, it is common to lose the things you mentioned. It is strongly recommended that if you crash that you do NOT open the game until you do the following:

  1. Manually backup your save.
  2. Copy the game's automatic backup over the top of your save so that you will be loading the backup instead of your actual save.
  3. Start the game. You will be back a little in time to whenever the automatic backup was created, but you should not have a corrupted save.
If for some reason, your automatic backup wasn't good, you can replace it with your manual backup and try loading that normal save. You might be lucky and not have a corrupted save. Note that you could also just manually backup your automatic backup and then start your normal save. If it works, you're fine. If not, you can then copy your manual backup over your save so that you're loading that automatic backup.

The reason you need to do this is that the automatic backup will be overwritten with a new automatic backup as soon as you load your save, which means that if your loaded save is corrupted, then your new automatic backup will also be corrupted and it will be too late to load the backup at that point.

As far as fixing your current game, the best option is to use the Creative Menu to give yourself the dev items that will complete quests and give you XP so you can get back to where you were, and you can also give yourself whatever toolbelt/inventory you had before (to the best of your memory). Then you'll have to choose your perks again. That's about the best you can do without having backed up the backup before starting the game after the power outage.
