The game isn't properly optimized for Linux. I've been playing this game for a long time and have played it on both Windows and Linux.

At first, everything worked fine. The game installed, loaded, and launched. Then, while in-game, while moving, entering locations, and loading new areas, the game would occasionally freeze until it loaded something, and then the FPS would return to normal.

I tried switching from OpenGL to Vulcan, and the same thing happened.

I even tested how the game would run on Proton, and it was the same.

It works fine on Windows.

I would be very happy if the appropriate improvements were made to Linux, such as optimization, fixing the bugs I mentioned, and finally switching from the experimental Vulcan.

Other than that, I have no complaints about the Linux version. Everything is perfect except for those persistent bugs.

Yeah we're aware and working on it. Linux updated kernels and sadly caused some chaos for the game. For now, I picked one of the Protons and it gave my linux setup a decent boost.

I did some further checking with another of our honorary testers who handles a lot of Linux questions from me, and via the forum. They will leave their comments below if you have any additional questions.

Thanks for the report.

#1: We've had a number of reports of stuttering while using vsync with a high refresh rate monitor. So I'd suggest trying it with vsync disabled till that improves.

#2: There's also a known issue that when the game runs low on VRAM in linux, it will start to stutter. You can run NVTOP or BTOP, or some such to see if you are hitting that limit. The fix for that specific issue would be to reduce your resolution and/or texture quality to get your vram use below your max.

There are other factors in your video that make it difficult for us to try to reproduce your issue; specifically: 1: You're playing a multiplayer, networked game, so network/server issues may be a factor not related to linux. 2: You're using V1.3 (b9) which isn't available any more, and you'd not have any subsequent optimations . 3: You're using the Darkness Fall mod, which is notoriously ■■■■■■■ both hardware and network. 4: Mint is now on V22.3 while your vid is on V22.1. These are all factors that could contribute to the stuttering, and we can't really isolate them.

Can you reproduce the stuttering with Vsync off, playing a local, unmodded, V2.5 (b32) build without hitting your VRAM limit?

Also, I'd suggest enabling FSR as it's a pretty good performance enhancement in the game.
