PC Legendary part drop rate is through the floor again.

There is absolutely no point in the book system at all if it is impossible to craft legendary gear. I can buy blue stuff from the trader long before I can craft it. I am on day 42. I have looted so many clothing containers that I have 200 armor parts and 200 sewing kits in a box. I have sold at least as many over of both to the traders. In that time I have looted exactly FIVE legendary parts. I got a sixth from the trader as a T5 reward. I have been able to craft legendary gear for a while now. I have so many parts in a box, I could craft legendary stuff three times over. In 2.4, I easily had four times as many legendary parts by this stage of the game. No I still don't have the last wasteland book or whatever. I didn't in 2.4 either.

Something you have done has made these drops nearly extinct. I don't know if it was the extra clothing items added or what. Those seem prohibitively rare as well. Certainly for level 68 anyway. I'm playing with XP set to default. I'm about to fight the day 42 horde and I the amount of pure ammo I am using to get through a T5 like Grover High is obscene. The whole game is set to default settings and I am fighting nothing but hundreds of "spawn on top of me" green, blue, and orange bullet sponges with subpar gear. Fun.

And here i thought i wasn't getting any because of my 25% loot setting. I actually had to prioritize what to craft at tier 6 because i had so few until i started completing tier 6 quests.

If its a change they did deliberately then good on them. Legendary gear SHOULD be rare.

It is definitely lower drop rates for them, but I seemed to have better drop rates when I looted higher biomes. It may be that rates relate to game stage, so you'll get more the further you get in the game and/or the higher the biome you go to. But it may also just be RNG that made it seem that way. In any case, we had enough parts to craft all Q6 armor for our two players, plus Q6 augers for both and Q6 weapons for both, so even though we're not swimming in them, we are still getting enough. It just happens that you might need to delay a little before crafting something.

The main downside to the low drops of legendary parts isn't how it affects vanilla since that seems acceptable to me, but it does have a significant impact on using Izayo's weapon mod since some of those require special repair kits that require legendary parts and some weapons require a LOT of legendary parts to craft. He may have to update the mod to also change drop rates.

Well, I found out what the problem was. I had theorized that it had something to do with investing points into armor. I took a learning elixir and removed all the points I had maxing out medium armor and I immediately started finding legendary parts again. It seems you can't actually spec into armor if you want to get any legendary parts outside of trader rewards. It raises the probability that you will find armor parts and sewing kits into the stratosphere. Completely swamping out any chance a legendary part will drop. I couldn't tell you if it is the same for other armor perks such as for light or heavy armor. For sure there is something wrong there with medium armor perks. The chance you find a legendary part should go up at the same rate as the other parts or you can't perk into medium armor at all. So now I just get to run around with a movement speed and stamina penalty until I get enough parts to build my stuff.

Once again, Fun Pimps specializing in creating perks you can't use. I mean, how dare you want to play a stealth build. You absolutely better use a machine gun if you want to survive a T5 POI. Even if you are not perked into it at all. Because a Vulture and an SMG will just get you killed. You cannot sneak at all in these POIs do to all the volume triggers. Nothing I love more that running around with a M60 like a mad man even though I haven't spent a single perk point into using it. Oh you want double XP for regular zombie kills? Better use a sledge hammer. I mean, it was already the strongest melee in the game. Might as well give it a double XP bonus. I can feel the balance all over my face.

I wouldn't be surprised, with the way the loot system works.. but did you check the xml:s? The more the merrier, when it comes to proof ;)

I wrote my own mod as a companion for Izayo's (and for mods like WitoFly). It adds a bunch of recipes: Gold Connectors (combine gold nuggets with electrical parts), Legendary Components (combine various weapon components with other resources, recipe depending), and Legendary Part (combine legendary components with gold connectors). Gives us a route to dealing with the disparity of part availability vs legendary part availability, but at a relatively high cost.

I flirted with the idea of sharing the mod, but not sharing it means I never spend a single second thinking about how someone I don't know might want it to work and I never have to fix a bug that isn't affecting me. :)

...and in our current playthrough it isn't helping us AT ALL. I gated it behind, I think, Electrician 100? Neither of us have gone that way this time so we're having to be really stingy with legendary parts use so we can keep our T4 weapons repaired.

I would assume the killing the loot chances of legendary parts when leveling armor perks is unintentional. Not sure I'd call it a bug per say, but maybe @faatal or another dev can take a look.

I found most of my legendary parts in Savage Country stores. I'm on day 30 something and have over 15 (and already used a few). Not a point into armor.

I looted two of them so far. One in the snow and one in the wasteland. That was before I took the points out of medium armor. The problem now is those are not re-lootable containers. I either have to get one of the traders to give me a quest there so I can reset them, or I have to find other Savage country stores.

The XML is identical for the drop rate to the 2.4 version
<item name="resourceLegendaryParts" count="1" loot_prob_template="veryLowDelayed"/>

<lootprobtemplate name="veryLowDelayed">
<loot level="0,14" prob="0"/>
<loot level="15,999999" prob=".05"/>

Could be the loot pool is watered down with the new protective clothing items.

I am finding allot less Legendary Parts as well.

RNG isn't going to account for finding 1/3rd less parts this time. I think It is probably the protective clothing items like rooster says. I swear I started finding them more when I removed the armor perks though. I found 3 in a Grover high infestation quest earlier. I also found the last wasteland book in the library. That was after I found the legendary parts though.

Can anyone remind me again what "force_prob="true"" means? I checked XML and expect for this parameter's influence in it legendary parts drop rate seemed independant of armor drop rate.

The fandom wiki has this random explanation:
(Lines 3 & 4) force_prob="true" - this means that even though the group specifies count="all", the game is forced to test this item against its probability, which comes from a loot_prob_template of "med" (0.5) or "low" (0.2). Basically items with force_prob="true" on them are treated like their own individual RNG checks, not grouped up like in the previous example.

I guess you're running into it at loot.xml(2414):
<lootgroup name="groupArmorScaled" count="all">

Doesn't feel like it would change the legendary odds there, or in the following
lootgroup name="groupArmorChests"

One thing I don't see directly from the xml is "how the armor drop rate actually increases". The armor perks increase odds towards "tags", but at which stage is that taken into consideration - only after an item has been "chosen to be an armor piece", or does the full loot table somehow get expanded first and then those tag-changes added. Might be some weird interaction there depending on the implementation.

Without points in armor (I never put points in there), legendary part drops definitely seem much lower in 2.5. They did pick up later in the game, but I only had a few for the first part of the game. I don't know if that was changed or if it's just RNG, though. It may be that my next game will have me swimming in them. Just how RNG works, after all.

OK, there is definitely something about having maxed out armor skill that is breaking the intended drop rate of legendary parts. I put the points back into medium armor and I stopped getting legendary parts at all again. After I removed them, I got seven parts parts in five days just doing random quests and POIs. Though it may not be intended for this to be the default behavior, there is certainly some correlation between having maxed armor skill and having every opportunity for a legendary part drop replaced by some random armor or armor parts or both. When I had no points in armor skill, I would sometimes find legendary parts in end loot even. Sometimes I would find a stack of two. I feels like I would find a legendary part in clothing related containers about ten percent of the time. With maxed out skill, I now find like a stack of like twenty-five sewing kits in end loot instead and maybe two pieces of useless armor. If they would just drop the legendary parts, I could make any armor I wish too.

This is a problem.

To support this, I don't have any points in armour and have about 30 legendary parts in total, I'm on a multiplayer server [default settings] so days cannot be measured but I've done about 5 Tier 6 quests so far, to give a measure of "game progress" to this run.

A bit of a loot test (v2.5(b23))

100 T5 Chests, loot stage 69,
2 copies of the same map, preset for the test.

Lucky Looter 5/5, Q6 rogue hood, no other talents
21 Legendary parts
82 Armor parts
381 Sewing kits
107 Armor pieces

Lucky Looter 5/5, Q6 rogue hood, ALL the armor talents
1 Legendary part
85 Armor parts
1006 Sewing kits
92 Armor pieces

Now, I'm not claiming certainty with n=100, but that's roughly 10 "successful" rolls vs 1. I'd say there's something going on.
Triple the sewing kits? :)
