Learn-By-Doing and My issues with Miner69er and Motherload being in the strength skill tree.

The problem with the current system is you're forced to go around looting mailboxes and book stores. It's boring and tedious. People who want to learn by doing have a good point.

Another way of doing this is by level. At level one you have a certain set of recipes and as you advance you you pick what you want out of a tree.
Exactly. They got rid of LBD to minimize exploit of crafting, running, mining, shooting, etc. to people focusing on bookstores and POI's with many bookshelves. What do you take as a reward? Books. Why? So you can craft better stuff. I just don't get the point. Each system is exploitable, but in the old one you had to do different stuff for different bonuses, now you just farm books.

LBD, gun parts, vehicle parts, combining them for better levels, wellness, clothes for different weather... far more superior stuff that got lost for no good reason. Simplification? Well, you got that down pretty well. Can't go much simpler than this. People never wanted or asked for simple.

You are not forced to go around looting mailboxes and book stores, you just do them when it is convenient. When I go from one part of the town I am currently in to the other side, I always go along the roads to see what POIs are where (exploring). As I am doing that, I will stop at the mailboxes and trash cans / piles and loot those as they tend to have crafting materials along with various magazines and books.

You may feel like you are forced to loot them right away, but that is only if you are in a rush to get higher levels in crafting ASAP. Most of the time I don't look bookstores until a quest sends me that way.

I got several complicated survival games in my Steam account that I either don't have installed or only played a few hours. 7 Days to Die I am still playing to this day. So not everyone wants survival games to be complicated.

True... just like with LBD. People who wanted to rush to higher levels did it. I crafted stuff when I needed it, mined stuff when I needed to.

That's why I say that there was no meaningful change with books and magazines. Well, except the dumbification of the game.
