PC latest release performance is worse...

I started a new Navezgame game and noticed a much lower overall frame rate, as well as considerable hitching and stuttering. It is still the worst inside or near structures. In the previous version my interior fps would drop down into the more or less playable twenties and thirties, now it is dropping into the teens and even single digits.

Performance outside is also worse, even when I am away from buildings. I used to get a steady 60 outside, now it hovers around the forties. Still playable, but a bit worrisome, especially as I was in an area with only one house.

Thanks,

Matt

To save time you can choose one of these answers in advance ;)

  1. Clearly your PC is the problem. It runs fine on mine at 30 fps no stutter at 640 x 480.
  2. What do you expect it's an Alpha game?
  3. What do you expect it's a Voxel game?
  4. Obviously TFPs haven't finished optimisations yet, dur.
  5. Once the Alpha's are out of the way in a few years you'll probably have upgraded at which point it might be ok.

Btw i'm with you, it runs a lot worse than A16 and performance is going backwards.

Post some basic pc specs and also try changing settings or resolution to see if makes some improvement.

I got no issues with a consistent 55-60 fps even inside PoIs.

Pc specs are

Reyzen 7..3.7ghz

32gb ddr 4 ram

Geforce rtx 2070

Most of the settings for me are at high but Shadows are off and that other stuff on the bottom right hand side is also off.

The biggest issue with frame rates seems to be resolutions. Knocking my resolution down a few knocks [but still so it's decent] greatly increased my fps.

Whereas before inside buildings my fps would go as low as 5 > 15 fps, now its at consistently 50>70fps near/inside buildings and currently up 80/90fps out in the wild.

Keeping all the same settings, i put my resolution back up to 1920x1080 and fps dropped instantly again.

My current PC:

CPU: Ryzen 7 2700x

RAM: 16GB ram running at 3400 MHz

GPU: RX Vega 56 8GB

My resolution 1920x1080 because my monitor doesn't support higher resolutions.

All Alpha 17 experimental builds before b240 ran mostly at 50-80 fps, sometimes it went down to 30 fps. Latest build 240 runs mostly at 40-50 fps. Something is really wrong.

While I'll admit it's a bit slower than normal, it's still fine.

Seems like some changes were made right before Stable released.

Guess we'll see optimization in the new year.

So what.

I'm just glad they gave us something to play with for Christmas.

Generally runs fine for me until 10+ zombies are activated and trying to path toward me though walls, then it becomes practically unplayable. I'm 90% sure it's the pathing. Definitely seems worse since the first A17 release.

there is definitely something wrong with the current build

I will be standing outside with no zombies in sight and getting 60 fps and every few minutes drop to 30 fps but it looks more like 15 to 20 fps and things start stuttering.

also when this happens I see screen tearing which I shouldn't since I have vsync turned on.

I don't know, I had 30+ Zs on first blood moon with 2 other friends and game never went below 60fps, playing on ultra minus some draw distance and blurr.

To me, this alpha works so good I can't even describe it.

Win10, gtx980Ti, 16gb ram, i56600k

I've had simmlar performance, Win 10, i5-7500, 8gb ram, geforce gtx 1070.

Plays just fine for me, but some I know have problems and can't play it.

My setup is:

Ryzen 5 2600x, 16gb DDR4 RAM, GTX 1070, Win10 Pro

Well with pc's no matter how overpowered your pc is, software still plays a massive factor in performance. Poor software will be poor performance no matter how good of a pc you have. Its not always the fault of the game either for the poor performance, sometimes some video card drivers just don't agree with a game, and that can cause issues. Look at ATI/AMD cards, they have so many issues with so many games, and its not the hardware thats the problem, its their crappy drivers thats the issue. ATI/AMD hardware itself is fine, the problem is their drivers tend to be rather poorly made compared to nvidia drivers, and that impacts the cards performance since, well, with a poor driver a car tends to have many issues, like crashes, and accidents.

I knew a17 was going to cause issue for some people as they bascally redid a large part of the engine itself, they updated unity 2-3 times during a17's dev time, think they had to rewrite the shaders from scratch both times as well. Updated graphics engine usually means higher system req's even if the games graphics don't look any better.

That's fair, I only use my PC for streaming/gaming purposes and do regular updates.... I hate how Win10 updates mess with OBS so much.

Turn off reflections, entirely.

There is certain textures that need to be fixed. Until TFP decide to fix them, turn off reflections.

Certain POI's with these will drop FPS like its a rock.

I might try that just to see the difference.

7DTD isn't a game where you really "need" reflections.

The only real thing you'll notice is the water will look like crap. The rest, not so much, no more fps drop near/in certain buildings.

Lighting still costs though.
