Larger player count servers for Console Edition

Hey,

I'm wondering if the developers are going to get around to increasing the player count from 4 to 8 on the console edition?

What are the future plans for multiplayer for the game?
I hate having to pick and choose who gets to join the server

The console as it stands right now, does not have the hardware to support it. It would either need more RAM, or to have 8GB of dedicated VRAM added.
Since the hardware is not likely to change in the near future, it is reliant entirely on optimization. TFP had to do a LOT of optimization and force lock down some settings in order to get what you currently have functional on your hardware.

Something else to note, is that you aren't hosting a server. You are just sharing your local world. It may seem like semantics, but it is a pretty big difference.

Hopefully in the near future you will be able to rent a PC-hosted dedicated server for up to 8 players that the console will be able to connect to. That is hopefully coming with v2.0, but it isn't set in stone. It's been hopefully coming for a year already, and the holdup is Sony and Microsoft approval.

Barring that, I would think that in a couple of years it might be possible that there is enough optimization in the client, and increased efficiency in the game engine that it will be possible for the consoles to have larger maps, and higher player counts. I would not hold my breath though.

This game is a very hardware-intensive title, and the consoles are very limited on the hardware that is available for the client to use.

we have no confirmation that TFP submitted for dedicated console servers for the upcoming 2.0
we do know that they could have submitted during 1.0 but did not
so please don't read the above response and think permissions have been waiting for a year...on MS or Sony. they have not had anything to review.

I got curious, because of the parallel deployment of console and pc. I came across this
recently. It speaks mostly of mods, the whys and why nots, but it also includes some
compatibility statements.

I am hoping for cross compatibility
in the future because most of the people I know and want to play with use consoles.
unfortunately,,,the link is not working

thanks @4sheetzngeegles
Interesting watch...I think he's a little off base about console players and mods imo. I knew I was giving up mods when I stopped gaming on PC. It has only been the last couple of years that xbox has started letting some games have mods. That is why console gamers are asking about them more.

@HammerDano
You are welcome. I really liked the lighting when the zombie was looking through the
fence. I searched for an hour trying to find it.:)
I get the part about the binary, c# is open. Hopefully, more optimizations may follow in the
future to allow it. But the security and processing I get that too.
