PC Lan play for missing couch coop

Guys, me and my mate used to play this drunk untill 3am having the time of our life. So obviously have to find a work around for missing couch coop. We both have a ps5, spare tv and the new game, is there a way to play a Lan game without paying for ps plus to go online?

This is one of the many reasons I don't play on my PS4 anymore. I got tired of Sony regularly increasing the price of PS Plus.

How does the PC side of the game handle LAN?

Maybe when we get Server cross platform, we will be able to get some LAN options.

It still requires connection and authentication to Steam/EoS.

You already have a LAN option as long as the systems are in the same "class". (PS5/PS5, Xbox/Xbox, or PC/PC)

With two systems/TV's it will work fine multiplayer. Playstation just has the caveat that you must subscribe to the bloated PS Plus payments in order to play online. AFAIK Xbox does not have this limitation.

With 1.2 dropping, you will be able to play across platforms as well.

Sad story on this point is that not all online games demand that PSN subscription, Warthunders is one of the prime examples as well as a few other more simple GAAS modeled ones.
There is a possiblity for devs/publishers to negotiate a PSN exemption for LAN games but I'm afraid Sony only coorperates if an in-game shop than goes through their PS store will provide their 30% cut in a steady flow.

Correct.

If a game is solely multiplayer, like WarThunder, The Crew, ect, Sony cannot force it behind the PS+ paywall.

If a game only has multiplayer as an option, then they will absolutely lock it behind that paywall.

And Microshaft used to do the same thing, but has stepped away from that for the most part as far as I am aware.

When a years subscription to PS+ was only $10-15 it wasn't a big deal. When it jumped to $25-30 I didn't like it, but could usually snag a good sale. When it went to $40 the sales dried up and I stopped paying.  I also stopped playing. Well except for The Crew, but then Ubi killed that and my PS4 has been collecting dust ever since.  It's in a box in the garage now.

And Sony's cut... That's why console players only got a 25% discount at release for owning the previous digital version. TFP wanted to discount it a LOT more, but Sony/MS wouldn't allow it because it would cut into their profit.

Are you saying that we can connect via a LAN, within the same "class", for 7dtD? I realize that if my two systems connect via Xbox Online, that this might be a LAN type play but it would be bouncing out to the world and back again.

I would like the offline option of connecting to other Xbox on my LAN.

My main issue is that Xbox Series does not really play well when hosting a world.  I was hoping that it was a network speed issue and wanted to try via LAN. I guess I can wait until the Cross platform works and built a PC server instead.

Yes, but you cannot be completely offline as the connection requires authentication and traversal through EoS.

AFAIK there are no plans for "offline LAN" like we used to set up LAN parties for to play Quake, ect. It defeats the thing I cannot remember the name of that ensures you own the game.

Your issue with it not playing well when hosting is largely a hardware limitation. Base game wants 8-12GB RAM, and a dedicated GPU with 4-6GB RAM. Add hosting, and you will need more RAM. Especially on larger maps. Consoles don't have a dedicated GPU and all the RAM is shared. Add to this the ultra-weak CPU on the Series-S, and it makes it really hard to properly support multiplayer on the consoles.

@SylenThunder are you talking about DRM (Digital Rights Management)? It's a game-initiated license check at a game start up

Had to google it lol, it might have increased my IQ by .5 point too 🤣

Yeah, that is basically what it is like. However the multiplayer connection is checking authentication for connected players every few minutes.
