PC Ladders, Nailguns and aiming thru bars

Hello all. I was wondering if anyone else has mentioned this before or if I am experiencing any of these issues for the first time? (Doubtful but possibly)

Ladders..... Why does it take so long to climb and descend ladders now? But if you take the time to make the down hay bale thing and up hatch elevator system that works? Will this be addressed in a future patch?

Nailguns are no longer fluid and it seems as if you have to smash the button for it to register like there is a delay. Anyone else have this problem? Or is it because I use my controller? Trying to teach myself the keyboard and mouse method.

Aiming through iron bars with a red dot sight is horrendous! I see the bars with absolute clarity but the zombies at distance are blobs and I'm basically spraying and praying at that point. Has it always been this way? I only just started playing on PC because of A17. I started on console years ago and God only knows how many lost hours I have in this game. So I went out and bought a pc literally for this. ZERO regrets but I don't know if this aiming through bars is a pc thing because the image quality is more superior. On console it is not a thing.

Thanks a lot guys & gals. I must say that pc gaming, even though I have had a couple of problems, is amazing

I think the last thing you mentioned about zombies being blurry thru bars...I believe madmole said it was a bug and I am guessing that means it will be fixed in future

Yeah that's what I thought too.

Guess we'll just have to be patient.

I can't see this being too high on the list of bugs to fix [and it's a long list].

Go into video options and turn off depth of field for now.

If you press sprint while climbing ladders (as I was doing from habit), you move SLOWER. A bug I guess?
Yeah that's annoying.

Climb speed was something that didn't need adjusting.

What a senseless thing to spend time on.

IIRC I remember seeing something about ladder climb speed on the forum not long after A17 came out. The new speed wasn't nerfed on purpose, it was an unintended side-effect of some other changes. I don't remember though who said it or exactly where.

The nailgun thing just happened with this update i believe. i noticed it also yesterday and didn't notice it before so it must've been with this update-lol

Thanks for the response, Gamida. I should spend 30 minutes surfing this forum for hot button topics and familiarize myself with some of these "issues". Albeit some big and some just annoying. I'm glad it seems most of mine have been addressed. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Hey JDStrawesome. What else does turning that off have an effect on? I'm really enjoying running the game maxed out right now as the graphics are actually really impressive for what this game is. Especially coming from console. I love that the reach/interaction is double that than on console and so much more. The only thing I've bastardized is using my controller. I just hope this community doesn't shun me for that. Hahahaa

ewww controllers, just kidding, I still use the controller for Borderlands 2 and the Farcry games :)

Weren't we taught in middle school to proofread our work before turning it in? Haaa. I'll try and find this in the forum to see what others are saying about it. It is a hideous problem though.

Hahaaa. Nooooooo. My gradual transition into the pc controller leper colony has officially begun. Seriously, my only gripe is that it keeps switching my schematic to an xbox layout instead of a playstation one. Is that a steam issue or ?

Depth of field simulates the eye/camera's real-world characteristic of only being able to focus on a narrow depth so that things in the foreground and background appear progressively blurry while the objects at a particular focal distance appear sharp and crisp.

It's just a beauty effect that, unfortunately, is more of a headache here because it just takes whatever is under the centerpoint of the view as the desired focal length, whereas in the real world, you flex your eyes in ways to select your focal range all the time as a mere reflex.

With it turned off, your focus becomes infinite. Everything is rendered sharp. Nothing is blurred.

As for controllers- to each their own. I use a very robust Steam controller config that I've designed.

lol, I don't know to be honest. On the 2 games that I use controller on... I use an Xbox controller lul

Game controllers? What kind of heresy is this? You people are creepy :p

Yeah, none of the special effects that are all the rage these days seem appropriate or useful.

Motion blur, toolshake and all the lens effects (chromatic abortion I'm looking at you).

Most of the people who like these things claim "realism" but I'm convinced they are basement dwellers who never get out of the house if this is what they consider "realism".

You describe it perfectly and why it fails so hard in any game I've ever seen.

OT - yeah, I could deal with the ladderspeed if sprinting didn't slow you down, again muscle memory more than anything tripping me up.

So I just wanted to let you know that I made that adjustment in my game and it definitely made the difference that I was looking for. Thank you for that piece of advice, it was more than helpful. You and all of these other fellow gamers have been very helpful/welcoming. Looking forward to being a longtime member here and maybe one day I can provide some help. Thanks again!

I'm a game developer myself, and I don't get PC master race obsession with keyboard mouse... it's like, "you know what would make my car perfect? If you could replace the steering wheel with a typewriter!" :D

I just want to sit back and play games with a gamepad and a big screen more than 18 inches from my face.

I hear ya. But I also go the other way. Like, when people complain "stop with the lens flares, our eyes aren't cameras!"

Uh... yes they are. ;)
