So, I'm loving the rework the zombies are getting in A17. The way you're not quite sure the zombie has actually been neutralised because there's no definitive "death animation".
As an extension of this, how about having a 25% chance that a zombie will remain dormant indefinitely until you step close enough for it to lash out? This will render the tactic of hanging back and waiting for it to get back up a little bit less reliable.
