Just Rejoined And I Have Thoughts

I just restarted playing again in the past 2 weeks after years away.

I’m loving what I’m seeing, and I just have a few ideas of things that would be awesome to see IMO.

Map option - automatically label all locations on your map once you’ve discovered their name. This could even be an option that your drone does for you once you have it.

On that note…. Drone is freaking amazing. There are some awesome features already,  but here’s some others that would be interesting to add:

Dismantle - let drone automatically roam the room you are in and dismantle unsearchable items like open toolboxes, toasters, microwaves, etc.

if you keep open space in its storage it could collect items. Maybe even tell it to focus on specifics like items that have mechanical parts. Etc.

repairing the drone currently is kind of cumbersome. I’d love to see an option on the interaction menu the same manner as vehicles.

im sure I’ll have more thoughts, but wanted to get these out there and see what yall think!

Welcome back to the apocalypse!

On you point about auto label the map, I tried to manually do this in one of my games, and got as far as part of one town (a small one) before the map got way to cluttered.  Maybe if there was a way to auto hide these label's by default, so they only show up when you are looking for something in particular?

Do you mean cluttered on the compass? Or do you mean on the main open map?    If it's on the compass, once you label a POI, if you click on the name it grays it out

so that it only appears on the compass when you track it. It also works for the red flag. Then you can open the map and see the label locations to revisit.

And where to put this garbage then?
The game has a lot of things that are needed at the beginning, but become unnecessary at the end of the game. By the time you can assemble or find a drone, all these electrical parts and mechanical parts will be unnecessary, there will be enough supplies.

In this dream world it would be an option in its menu, if you didn't want it searching/breaking down stuff you would tell it to stop doing that.  I think it would need a new mod,  the multi-tool mod and off it goes, grabbing all the little @%$#.  Although that would steal your search xp you get for digging through all the trash.  That adds up.

I think they mean in the main map.  There are a ton of POI in a town and trying to fit all those names will be hard.  Just look at the space a trader name or custom waypoint takes up in order to be large enough to read.  Now look at a densely populated tile, such a countryreaidential tile and you will quickly see how hard it would be to label all of that.

However, it could be possible to have it be a tooltip that only appears if you mouseover something.  That wouldn't be cluttered.  I don't really think it is necessary, though.  Take time to explore. 😀

I think that becomes too automatic.  You should need to do stuff yourself and not just let the game do it for you, imo.

No disagreement there.  I was just thinking about how to keep it balanced, and work with the systems that are already in place.  Although there is nothing that currently 'wrenches' things down other than the player.

I certainly wouldn't mind having the drone be more useful though.

With a repair kit in your inventory you can hold the interaction menu while hovering over your drone. There will be a wrench that will let you repair it easy peasy, same with vehicles.

And under what conditions does the drone break? For me it only got damaged when I accidentally hit it.

I made a thread asking the same thing. I honestly don't know. I just repair it once an ingame day, just to be safe.

Check the thread I made in the console forum section.

I've had a drone break multiple times by getting hit with cop spit.  If it wasn't always getting in your line of sight, this wouldn't happen, but I digress.

Well, maybe in this case. The only time my drone got damaged was when it was between me and a zombie and I hit it with a burst from a machine gun. Otherwise, it's usually always intact. In general, most of the time it lies in my belt, I usually take it out at the end of clearing a location, when I run out of space in my inventory. And after unloading at the base, I remove it back.
