PC Just Get Rid Of Stamina All Together... <FLAME ON!>

The new perk system can not work with LBD. A lot of the stuff in the new one is completely disconnected from gameplay.Lets say encumbrance... you get better at it by having a full inventory?

Slow metabolism... you get better at retaining food by...eating? What? That litteraly makes the game easier as you play...

Healing factor... i get free HP regen (this perk is bull♥♥♥♥ if you are trying to give us a difficult survival experiance) by what? Gettig hit.

Having attributes be somthing that your raise by doing certain activities and then spending perk points on is basically what a16 alrealdy was, its just increasing your mining skills now also mean you do more damage with melee (clubs) because you are doing 'strength' activites.

This wont work, how do i raise INT? By (spam)crafting?
I think this could work if they had a mix of systems. Basically perks wouldn't effect damage, would be much rarer and would basically add effects to things, like adding chance on hit stun to heavy weapons. They'd then have to bring back some of the skills from A16 and have those be learn by doing, and those would affect your damage or what have you.

From what I've read a lot of people who complain about stamina in this particular Alpha are really complaining about the max stamina that doesn't refill until you eat something. Normal stamina that depletes from activity and then regens when you stop moving is an obvious mechanic that everybody understands, but the max stamina is something new and it's not immediately apparent how it works.

The problems with it are:

A) It isn't obvious why max stamina depletes

In this Alpha it took me a while to figure out why my max stamina kept going down. I didn't realise it was connected to food. It's not obvious. There is no food indicator, so you just see that stamina cap getting smaller and smaller through seemingly no fault of your own. If I was a new player, I might have rage quit from frustration, but I kept going only because of my love for this game.

In A16, it was clear that you lost max stamina because you died. As a result, you would avoid doing really stupid / high risk things in the game so that you could stay alive and not get that penalty, especially if you were hunting that Steam achievement for high wellness. I forget what it was (180?).

B) The max stamina is penalised too much

In this Alpha I haven't noticed exactly how low your your max stamina can go (20 maybe?), but it seemed pretty severe to the point that my character was behaving like a 90 year old with asthma.

In A16 the max stamina only depleted to a minimum of 70 (or was it 75?). It wouldn't go below that. 70 is not great but it's manageable. It doesn't turn your character into an invalid at least.

I think stamina presents a fun challenge when it comes to combat or running away from something. But why do we need it for mining or harvesting? It doesn't present any kind of challenge. It just makes the game tedious. If they want to penalize mining, why not make my hunger and thirst decrease faster if I spend all day mining? This way there's still a trade-off, but without adding to the tedium.
I agree with this. I don't mind using stamina on things like mining, but I agree the fun aspect of having stamina at all is the threat of running out of stamina during combat. I wouldn't do away with stamina completely.

I really don't understand the mining pick power attack used for mining either. Like... okay... I have to angry mine now if I want to make meaningful progress? Is... Is that it? Was a right click slower swing really intended to be a way to make mining more fun? Uh... It's kinda not...
Angry Mining! XD

I just don’t understand why people complain about a system that is still new and they haven’t learned yet. Put some perks into stamina Regen? Pretty easy. Yes the first day is harder atm but with 17.1 and the first day adjustment the issue will be mostly gone. Unless you are one of those people who only wanna build (holy moly creative mode and cheat mode exists for that purpose!!!) why does everyone play survival if they just wanna build? Just use some cheats to early level and get perks to get rid of stamina woes and “enjoy” survival mode?
That is the point. You shouldn't have to 'learn' a new system in a game. It should be obvious. With good UX design and user testing it is possible to implement something without frustrating people, and that is what TFP need to aim for in my opnion.

No what i encumber about is a mix of

Out of stamina during you move

Out of stamina during you use a tool

Slowed down to 1% movement speed by encumbrance

Too hot, too cold without anything you can do except moving in a other Biome

In short the gameplay that feels like you play in a world covered with glue

This is exactly why I don't play right now. I can't stand that feeling. It goes right up the back of my neck. I don't need super fast action per say. But I cannot handle games that make me feel like a slug...

I actually couldn't play Battlefield for the same reason. *shrug*. I don't actually play FPS games anymore to my kids dismay. But if I did, I'd go back to Modern Warfare kind of games that actually felt more free in motion.

You're right. I hadn't even realized.

Just for funsies, an hour ago, I tried starting a new world, 90 minute days, cheats on, and I immedeately used the debug menu to increase the timescale to 2.25x the normal. ♥♥♥♥e... it's a whole different game. First day was already heart-pumping. I might make a longer thread once I play more, and raid a dungeon, but seriously, you need to try it.

Wait what? 90min days is longer right? What effect does the time scale provide?

Nah you wouldn't carry a sledge. That would be a waste!

You'd just use the back of the axe.

Sledge would be a s*** tool to carry around and an even worse weapon.

Cannot agree with ya man. I want a weapon that moves quickly with enough weight to smoosh things still.
Sledgehammer? Hope there's only 1 slow zombie and you don't miss.

Axe? Betterish, but same.

Pickaxe? Same and worse than sledge.

Crowbar? File down both ends to points and I'm totally down. More than enough weight.

But seriously. I'm sticking with my #1 tool in a zombie apocalypse...

1 Full Sized Monster Truck, with a high HP diesel engine replacing the monster truck engine and 3/4 sized tires (weight). I don't need to be fast. I don't need to be cool spitting flames. Not jumping busses or driving over them. Just give me a good 10mph go and I'm all good from there...

Katana? I want to make a Michonne character.

Time scale makes EVERYTHING faster. Mining, stamina regen speed, stamina drain speed, zombie walk speed, day/night cycle speed(which I tried cancelling out with the increased day time), firing speed, reload speed.

Just finished second day. It's ends up I was only going around 1.5x regular speed. Still really intense though.
